got in an accident where i bent my fromt left LCA and snapped the traction rod were it connects to the lca and i noticed that my radiator was empty. When i filled up the radiator it was foaming real bad and its never done this before. Will i see smoke from the exhaust if im just running water or does it need to be coolant? Also any other signs i should be looking for? The car idles great but i cant drive it atm so idk how well it runs. Before the accident i pressure checked my radiator and it held about 13 pounds for 5 minutes so i didnt have a leak for about 2 weeks till i had the accident now all the coolants gone and it must of gone somewere

UPDATE after running the car for about 15 minutes the foam went away and i can see coolant again in the radiator but now i can hear a rattle from the block i never noticed before any advice would be appreciated ty

If the head gasket is blown,it is going to put out some white smoke whether it is straight water or coolant.Have you pressure tested the cooling system since the accident to find out if it has an external leak?As far as the knock, did you run the car hot?

itll do that if the engine is hot, itll make alot of steam. i bet the noise was air in your cooling system going through the water pump. i could be wrong but thats my guess

Id be worried about why the coolant went empty. Cracked rad, broken hose, etc. Don't run it until you find something. Drain, refill 50/50 or 60w/40c, and bleed it.

well when i put water to top the rad off and ran it till it reached operating temp and the thermistat opened i saw coolant flowing again. As for anything leaking i haven't seen any on the driveway and its been 2 days since i refilled it and its still at the same level so im really confused on that one.other than that i just finished fixing the LCA today and it feels good not quiet the same it pulls a little more to the left than usual but it handles and takes bumps good though my left wheel(the damaged one) is about 1/4 an inch further back than the right but my subframe didnt seem bent could it just be part of the bad alignment?

I would check your rad, water pump & thermostat housing. If your losing coolant its coming from somewhere... You should be able to look around and spot a head leak, it usually foams its way out, and as mentioned above, if your smoking white, thats usually a head leak or water in your engine burning off.

I had a sim situation, and I couldnt figure out why I was leaking fluid and where from. Then I lifted the car and low and behild, the water pump. Its kinda sneeky and hidden on the bottom portion of it.
