I just bought a new Sony xplod headunit and intstalled it myself, turn it on, it seems to work fine, radio works and sounds great.

I put in a cd and it doesn't play, it shows it playing on the screen and the equalizer is dancing on the screen but no sound from the speakers.

I tried pluging in my ipod and it does the same thing, it shows it should be working on the screen but again, no sound.

Did I get a bad headunit or what?

Check all the connections behind the stereo and the speakers. If all of them are perfect, you might have bad speakers or a defective headunit.

I'm gonna go with your antenna turn on "solid blue" is hooked to your factory amp turn on wire. You should have your blue/white hooked up to your factory amp turn on wire. I see this all the time with diyers thinking they got a bad radio.

Ok 2 bluessolid blue- for power antenna/amplified antenna. Only sends voltage when the am/fm is selected and no voltage when cd or ipod is hooked up.

blue with white stripe- turns on factory amps/aftermarket amps at all times units are producing sound. such as radio/cd/mp3 etc.

you probably hooked up blue from your head unit to the amp turn on wire on the 240 that would be why your factory amp is only turned on when you choose am/fm because it would normally trigger a power/amplified antenna. So change it and hook up your blue/white to your factory amp turn on.
