Possible 2002-03 Maxima purchase, need opinions

Hi everyone,

Haven't posted on the Maxima section of NICO yet, I've been on the 300zx page for most of my time here but I'm looking to pick up a 2002 or 2003 Maxima as my daily. My preference will be one with the 3.5L VQ35DE engine and 6-speed manual transmission. I'm not big on the 2004+ body style really until the newer 09-10 models. Just have some questions though:

1. How reliable are they? any common issues with these years?

2. Are high mileage ones a bad idea? I see some with ~200k miles that aren't in bad shape, but I'm not sure how much longer the engine will run.

3. I'm looking to spend as close to $3k (or less) as possible... seem reasonable??

I am a huge fan of the VQ35DE engine. I have a 2003 350z and a 2002 Infiniti qx4 and have never had a major problem out of either other than drive belts and a few hoses leaking. The qx4 has close to 200k miles and never a major issue. My friend has a 2002 maxima with 225k on it and still runs great, but granted he is very religious with his maintenance. Buying used at that kind of mileage is always a risk unless you can access maintenance records from the seller. You could also get a 150 point inspection done at a local Nissan dealer to make sure you know what you could potentially be dealing with.

So I ended up buying a 2002 Altima 3.5 SE haha. I couldn't find any lower mileage Maxima's near me with a manual. I picked it up for $1750 with a first gear grind and power steering leak, only 106k miles though.
