Remember the Service Department is a separate profit center from the USED CAR department, so in theory who ever pays for the inspection gets the most useful information.
Force the Service Manager to be ethical, agree on cost, pay the charges, then spring it on them that the vehicle in question is on their own USED LOT.
Don't fall for all our vehicles are inspected show me the technican written report, arrange for me to speak with him, will he/you take a lie detector test.............the salesman will run away screaming it you can pull this off.
AS IS is AS IS and buyer beware is the mantra..............never take things at face value get every promise in writing.
Every USED CAR being sold has some problem [especially LEASED, repos and demos [except the owners and service managers]....only those do they get right on immediately............the salesmen can wait.
Remember each division is a separate company occupying the same piece of ground.
Car sold by independents are usually more defective than tradeins to dealers, the poor ones get sent to the auction immediately or are sold to other independent lots. The USED CAR DIVISON is the most profitable more than the new car lot.
