While I was driving yesterday, I noticed that the radio cut out (no sound) and a couple of indicator lights came on. "TCS Off", "Slip", and "ABS". Next time I started it up everything was back to normal except that the radio would cut out whenever I applied throttle. Then whenever I released the gas pedal, the sound would come back on. No matter what gear, park, neutral, or drive, whenever I hit the gas pedal the sound would just turn off. The display on the radio remained on, but the sound just cut out.

But that's not all. It seems that all three of those indicator lights have come back on and the same problem with the radio still persists. And today I discovered that I lost control of the all the power seat switches. Every so often they would work again, I think only when the car was in park or something like that. I'm guessing that it's connected to the radio problem somehow, and most likely the power seats would work when the radio worked.

Seems like some kind of funky electrical problem right? Here's another problem that may or may not be related. Ever since we got the car (with approx 74k miles) it has had some minor acceleration issues, what I believe to be the transmission either not kicking down when it's supposed to, not shifting at the proper times, or being in too high of a gear to accelerate fast. Something like that, because sometimes it is downright sluggish, with no kickdown to a lower gear when accelerating unless I force it by flooring the thing.

Myself, I think everything is related with some kind of electrical/computer issue. But then again I don't know anything about these cars. I'm trying to help my mother out to fix these problems.

Anyone have an ideas what is going on? I want to avoid bringing it to the dealership if possible, or at least keep the repair costs as low as possible.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

check voltage of your battery, and or you might have a bad graound to the chassis. try to use a volt meter and check voltage when it is running and when it is not. when you are running the motor you should read about 14.5v.

It could be the alternator, as well.

Mine started with a "Low Battery Charge" on the display.

The dealership wanted $850.00 to replace the alternator.

The car died at my tire store the day before I was taking it to Brewbaker. They changed out the alternator for $550.00

I also bought a new battery, just to be safe.

I bet you have an alternator going out.
