so im building a ka-t and i have all the parts i need to build my head im going to do a valve job but i want to port and polish it too. ive heard that thats bad for the ka heads because the ports in the head are already enough and polishoing it would lead to bad turbulance flow in the head. i dont know if this is true or not i would like to hear your guys input and what you guys did to yours thanks for the help

porting and polishing can never be bad if its done right and will help increase volumetric efficiency an almost any factory car. Because the ka block is factory made you can expect that the parts such as the manifold have resistance based on the rough flow characteristics vs a ported and polished one. You are spending more time on an area the manufacturer didn't.

i think if you gasket match and simply clean up any casting imperfections you should be fine

you shouldn't go crazy with the dremel unless you have a flow bench.

this was kinda discussed in this thread I made

That's exactly what I did. I also made a thread about my 'Port and Polish' ventures. Lots of pictures too. And a lot of useful information in there as well. My car runs pretty darn good, with the exception of having stock cams.

go back and b-slap the person you heard it from. bad judgement and misinformed usually = blown motor. good luck.

Heres your reason to leave port/polish to the pros. When you take out more metal on one port than the other, that cylinder will consistently get more air than the others. This will cause a cylinder to constantly run leaner than the rest. It will be your motors weak link, when you get a boost spike, or whatever that cylinder will be hit the hardest.

Best thing you can do if you wana screw around with your heads is to take the casting marks out. This will allow your head to breath better without risking an unbalanced head/motor. Also, polishing the exhaust side can be beneficial.

I guess what im saying is, dont take a dye grinder and start going nuts on your head, you WILL do more harm than good.

Port match = yes, do it yourself. Just matching your port to the gasket.Porting and polishing for yourself= NO!!! If you don't know what you are doing you can screw up big time. Leave it to a pro with the right equipment and knowledge.
