Until May 24th, it's free. PC or Mac users should jump on this. Even Linux users should jump on it, as Steam for linux is supposedly coming soon.

If you don't own it and have a PC made in the last 5 or so years, you NEED to pick this up. Source's system requirements are very forgiving, so even if you don't have a gaming rig, you should still be able to run it on anything made in the last half-decade.

I'm pretty sure everyone on earth already owns Portal, though, which is probably why Valve can afford to offer it for Free for two weeks.

Sweet baby zombie mutant Jesus that guy is annoying. And an idiot.
A: Disable automatic startup. That simple

B: Portal wasn't "updating" for an hour. It was INSTALLING. You can't just click one button and magically play a 6GB game instantly. When you try and launch a game that's not finished installing, Steam gives you the option to auto-launch it when it IS done installing. Which is what that "update" he's bitching about is.

C: Steam updates on a very regular basis. It's extremely unrealistic to expect the newest installer to be ready for download all the time. Keeping a semi-recent version up is much more realistic...download that, install a small update, you're set! Stop whining.

D: Learn the difference between a program and its GUI. YES, steam's GUI is a webpage. STEAM is not a webpage. Steam GUI is Webkit-based.

E: STOP WHINING. f***.

F: This is why people have Mac users.

G: This guy went into Steam WANTING to hate it, and looking for things to hate.

H: This is why people hate Mac users.

I: I'm picky about my startup items, too. JUST USE THE DAMN OPTION. You can't expect the program to be psychic and automatically know which way you want it. But that's all beside the point. The real point is that Steam HAS TO BE RUNNING to play Steam games, so you will end up starting it anyway. Why not just start it now so you don't have to wait for the sign-in crap when you want to play the game? Is Mac such a crummy OS that you can't spare that much RAM? Oh, I forgot: Mac hardware is notorious for its low RAM out of the box. That's not Steam's fault.

J: The dude was doing everything the hard way. I don't know why the smeg he kept going back to the steam WEBSITE to do s*** when there were clearly marked buttons on the Steam interface to do all the s*** he was bitching about being too difficult the easy way.

K: You want to know why no one makes games for Mac? THIS GUY IS WHY.

L: The "hype" is not about Steam itself, d!ck. It's about the fact that Steam on Mac means a SHARTLOAD of games that never would have made it to Mac (because, I remind you, of ***holes like this guy) are now going to make it to Mac. Not just Valve stuff. Tons of developers already publishing through Steam have announced plans to launch on Mac.

M: Stop blaming user error on devices. YOUR stupidity is not Steam's fault. It's not even Mac's fault. It's not Valve's fault. It's not Portal's fault. Your stupidity is YOUR fault. And it's YOUR problem. Keep it to yourself.
