I have search and found conflicting information about porting and polishing a head. Some people on the board have said it will only produce a slight hp gain but I was browsing importperformance parts.net and this is what Flatlander claims:

Stage 1: 25-30hpStage 2: 50-60hpStage 3: 85-90hp

See it here: CLICK

These sound pretty good to me. Also how would this effect nitrous use? Anyone got any experience with results of this? Thanks In Advance.

You're never going to get even 25 hp from just porting the KA head... no way, no how.

With hot cams... maybe. But port and polish alone isn't going to do much.

hot cams and a damn aggresive p&p will still probably only get you about 15 hp... you have to add some kind of forced induction. dont add that, dont expect s***, thats how it goes with our engine. the modified magazine had a good article on p&p'ing a ka head. you oughta look it up, about 4 months or so ago.

Yeah, the KA head isnt one for good flow, even with the cams and p&p. you'd have to do some really agressive work on both and add a custom intake manifold to see some major gains without going FI.

Thanx guys, you probably just saved me a ton of time and money down the road. The Flatlander package includes a 3 angle valve job, does that make any difference? If not i will just take it to a local shop. Even if it doesnt produce that much of a gain, I think it would be a nice thing to have done just to help out. Since it was brought up, what are some good things to improve the intake manifold anyway, are there any?

you can get it extrude honed. its expensive, but worth it. probably the best bang for your buck as far as manifolds go. do a google search for "extrude honing", lots of good info to be read.

spend your money then. if youre running a ka like i and other altima owners do, then the chances of you getting cams and the lobes going flat on you are pretty good too. for the price of cams, i dont need them going flat from a s*** grind job. thats enough for me to stay away from their other products too. why do you type with caps on?

youre not going to hear about lobes going flat from the source, youre gonna hear about it from people its happened to. why dont you use an altima exhaust cam? from what ive heard, thats good for about 10-14 horse for you 240 guys.

altima cams, I have heard do not "drop in". due to head configuration differences(distributor) amongst other things.

porting the head to the manifold and extrude honing them both, with a set of cams would set you back some serious moohlah, and net you probably anywhere from 8 to 18hp, if I was to take a guess.-chet

at the point im at, id love to get my manifold extrude honed. ive already port matched the intake and head to each other along with the bigger throttle body. maybe when i go direct port, ill do the extrude honing.

why not get a custom intake manifold. get the bottom half chopped off and have a new plenum made. one that fits all the sensors and the TB and injectors. they're pretty expensive, but will flow better than just a stock one with some work done.

im running nitrous though, so even though ill lose some low end to the short runners, this thing should scream up top... i guess ill just have to do it and see what happens. if it wasnt such a hassle to take the intake on and off of this car, itd be done already...

Hmmmmmm........well time for me to do some more home work on this. Thanks for all the tips guys. I keep trying to remember who I heard talking about gude before, I will look into them. I wonder if their cam could be swaped out for a PDM Racing cam or would that throw the whol thing off? I donno, I am just tossing out ideas here. When I pull my old 24E and put the new one in, I am gonna have plenty of parts to play with and improve.
