Im looking for a good, reputable machine shop in the florida-georgia area to port and polish my head and match the head with my intake manifold and port and match my intake man. to match my upgraded throttle body. Any recommendation of where to go and not to go?

Also what gains have people scene with a p&p on an sr20???

How much can i expect to pay and what have others paid?

thx

I've seen some port and polishing jobs on the redtop SR yield as much as 16hp. But I've also seen them yield as little as 4. The 4 was a home job, the 16 was a machine job costing $800. They did the porting by hand and the polishing was done by a machine with some clay like substance that they pushed into the head.

That's extrude honing, and its likely that half of that 800 went into getting that done. I was going to have it done for the exhaust mani on my CA but the price was just too steep for me.

ah ok. yeah I wasn't too clear on what they were doing. I just assumed they were polishing it via machine instead of doing that part by hand.

extrune honeing is worthless... Have a machene shop port what is necissary, not every crevice that can be ported..

Extrude honing is to polish the interior of whatever part you're referring to, to remove any casting flash/defects and, due to how the material flows, to ease tight radiuses in the head.

Extrude honing doesn't port much of anything. That's why they charge extra for gasket matching the ports. The only thing I can think of that would be like "porting" the deeper interior parts of the head is when people slice the heads open to weld and reform the actual interior design of the head. Which is pointless unless you're running in a serious all motor class, you have a bad head design to start with, and you've got very deep pockets.

here a place that could help. it's not in florida (toledo oh) but you could ship it to them. and from what i've heard they do a really good job. they have a flow bench and they have some experience with 240s, not sure if they've done KAs or SRs, probably both. they have coatings too.
