I keep getting a popup on my desktop for http://www.windowspatch.info.

Says it's from Microsoft Networks, but I'm afraid it's not legit (since I also get other types of ad popups...)

What's the best popup blocker? My Norton isn't catching it.

the google toolbar

If you keep getting it tthough, you probaly have something called spyware. To get rid of this you need a prog called Spybot search and destroy which is found here:

AZ - Did you try the google tool bar (becomes part of IE)? It's work wonders for me, you may try Ad-ware 6.0 for the other. I had spybot first then after loading Ad-ware, I could run spybot and adware would still find stuff.

<Also, there's a post in test, guy needs "mod" help>

And its not because of any website correct? Hmmm...

You might want to try another virus check, or you can give adaware a shot at getting rid of that popup. And I dont know if when you dl spybot it comes fully updated, you can try the search for updates option in spybot. Other then that im not sure.

there's always time for p0rn!

i love mozilla cause all the windows open up in one browser window and are tabbed at the top.

http://forums.evolutionm.net/s...whore

That's the way that mozilla indexes pages. plus it blocks all pop ups. period. it'll block pop ups from legit sources too, like say a cardomain picture, but all you have to do is wait for the page to load before you click.

Norton Antivirus now picks up spyware from what I can tell (spent several hours removing spyware from various work computers the other day). If you have/can get that, it helps quite a bit in pinpointing what file(s) is causing it. And a word to the wise, never never NEVER download Gator. It can be likened to cancer for computers.

Oh yeah, and Firebird is quite awesome.

AZ, i know what you have. If you're on XP, you're gonna want to go to Control Panel. Then Administrative Tools. Then Services. Then find Messenger, Double-click it, then go to the box that says Startup Type and change to disabled.

I hated those mofos, and im assuming you have the same thing i did.

I forgot to mention, the reason they do it is to start a scam, saying you have to go to some site to get software to stop the messages when all that you have to do is what i said above.

I think I 30T is correct. Stop Messenger services then disable them. I had that problem a while ago. As for browsers, I also reccomend the Mozilla Firebird. No popups at all. Isn't Firebird Netscape based?

Windows Messenger is disabled the same way in Win2K. . . even if that's not the source of the pop-ups, it's still a good idea to kill that. .

Try a google search for Cool Web Shredder.

I had a NASTY spyware problem that was beating the crap out of my computer. It would put shortcut icons on my desktop for p0rn and gamb|ing sites. It would change my homepage every 30 seconds or so.... I got blitzed with popup ads etc etc. Coolwebshredder cleared it up nicely.

No ... other way around ... Netscape 6 was based on an early version of Mozilla (actually, almost all browers owe something to very early Mozilla work - name was different then, as I recall).
