popping out of third gear when letting off gas

Thought I would try the forum before having a mechanic look at this and get some background.

Anyone know about this problem? Basically the car (98 Pathfinder 5 speed) shifts fine into third, but if you let off the gas (say 90%) there is some feedback from the shift lever and more often than not it will fall into neutral by itself if you don't have your hand on it.

Other than that the transmission seems fine, clutch as well.
