91 Nissan 240sxStock Ka24de w/ intake and 3 inch cat back exhaust/ no cat converter177,xxx miles/ smells slightly gaseous but runs fine, and smokes a little when not moving.

So the problem recently is, is that about a 2months ago the problem first arised. I was diriving sorta spirited and then came to a stop as i started to go again my car sounded like it wasnt firing on a cylinder. AKA ran like a lawn mower. Got home found the problem on cylinder 2. The spark plug wire had seperated itself internally. So i went to Napa and the best spark wires they provided. They have been working great for the past 2 months and then yesterday the same thing happened again. As i was driving i took it up to about 5500rpm and it started running like s*** again so i pulled over to check if the wire was messed up and it wasnt. so i popped individually all the wires off to see if the spark would ark across to each of them and it did. but then cylinder 2 would only do it intermitantly. so i started the car back up and drove to autozone and bought the tools to pull a spark plug (i was about an hour from my house). i went in it took me about ten minutes to get all the stuff i needed and i went back out to start it up and it started up and ran fine for the rest of the day? im confused as to why letting it sit for a couple minutes makes it start up and run fine. if anyone has any idea what might be going on i would greatly appreciate it.

ive had a similar problem on my 91 as well. i traced it down to a shorting ground wire in the harness that runs over the upper manifold.

After i fixed it i the problem is a lot less common in fact it hasent acted up in months.

hmmmm yeah idk it doesnt really seem like a short. i could be wrong. but when it first happend the spark plug wire was seperated for some reason. my compression is still slightly decent 155 across the 4 cylinders. it was 170 about two months ago so i know the head gasket is on its way out the door. the thing that is gettin me is that it only happens when i get on it land take it up to 6 grand thats when it happens (at least the past 2 times it has happened)
