Hopfully someone can help, I have a popping noise that sounds like it is coming from the driver side rear speaker platform. Has anyone had this problem. It started out making the noise about once or twice a week and now its all the time.

Can you explain when it happens? ie. Only during turns, while going over bumps, when the stereo is on, when I'm accelerating or braking?

It happens just riding along when I hit bumps or not.

Sorry, but if you want anyone to help you, you'll have to give us more to go on than "It just happens".

Try isolating the sound. Turn off your stereo. Maintain a steady speed on a smooth surface.

If it doesn't happen again, then start adding in variable until one of them causes the sound.

There's an issue with the spot welds on the rear of some of the G35s, but I'm not sure that this applies so your "popping noise".

Hey there, I would get it checked out if it really bothers you, or if it doesn't sound safe. You may have several things from a failed/weak/loose shock mount or a something loose in the trunk or parcel shelf.

I don't think Nate is trying to scare you by saying there is a "problem" with welds he likes to try to scare people.

This is a hard question to ask but is it a metal on metal, metal on plastic, plastic on plastic? Depending on the pitch and frequency of the squeak it may be easier to narrow down where it's coming from. Have you had any work done recently body or mechanical or notable otherwise?

have you done any suspension work at all?

some people have had "popping" from the welds, as SBD pointed out

some people have had "popping" from the strut mounts, if they are bad or not tight

some people had a "popping" sound that they thought came from the rear but in fact it was coming from the sunroof (see if it goes away by opening the sunroof)

What does this mean? I don't intentionally scare people. I keep them informed regardless of Infiniti wants them to know about it or now

Yeah but most of the things you say are not anything more than random internet speculation.

What I take issue with is HI welcome to nico your cars welds may be falling apart.

Lets try to answer these questions from the technical aspect. Asking questions first then when you have the correct information making a decision of what needs to be inspected. Broken/missing or otherwise compromised body welds are not common not beyond the realm of comprehension just not the most likely cause of a noise.

Remember people come to Nico for straight answers, they go elsewhere if over the top forum style answers.

Steve,

I'm going to ask you this nicely ONCE and only ONCE. Please read EVERYTHING before making comments and STOP trying to find reasons to belittle my knowledge.

I initially asked when and how the sound came about. The OP gave me a flippant answer so I gave more suggestions on how he/she could get a better answer and I stated one of the few noise problems that comes from the general area described.

Realize that just because your dealership hasn't seen many body weld issues, doesn't mean it's not a reasonably common problem. There COULD be thousands of Gs out there with weak welds and you'd never know. Why? The owners may not complain or take the issue to their local dealer. The dealers may all only see a few of these and it not turn into a TSB...etc.

Again, I in NO WAY tried to scare the OP into thinking he/she has a weak weld. I just stated a possibility. Please consider this before you or your co-worker choose to attack my opinion/statement in the future.

Just got my car back from dealership yesterday. Brought it in due to a popping/chattering noise from right rear of the car when going over bumps in the road. The dealership had the car since last Wednesday and finally identified the problem to be some cracked spot welds in the rear. They said they applied some sort of body foam to the area to force the two pieces of metal away from one another to prevent it from touching and chattering. Got the car back yesterday and don't hear the noise anymore.
