So for the last two days ive noticed a faint pop or "clunk" coming from what sounds like the drivers side rear of the vehicle. Its not over bumps however (that i can tell) as it seems to be happening when the car "rocks" from side to side for lack of a better word. Basically when the bodys weight shifts from side to side even slightly i hear this faint pop. Its so low that i need my music off to hear it, but its there. It also happens sometimes when i come to a complete stop and the car "rocks" slightly as it settles

I have some stuff in the trunk so i thought it coulve been my stuff, but everything is packed pretty securely and i even manipulated the stuff back there and could not "replicate" the sound.

I also hear a slight "clang" from what I believe is the left rear caliper sometimes when I hit the brake at a slow speed. Its not intrusive and almost can pass for "normal" but im pretty sure my car hasnt done that before.

My main concern is the pop sound from the rear. My car only has 4500 miiles so I dont believe it to be a strut. Any takers?

After reading your response I grabbed both sides of the back seat and jiggled it... The only time I heard anything was when I really yanked the seats. They dont see that type of motion when Im driving normally, and the sound coming from the seat was a more metallic sound. The "pop" Im referring to sounds more plasticy

Have you checked underneath the car after the sound? I was having a simular sound when it was coasting at lower speeds l. It turned out the aluminum shield protecting the gas tank and axle was dislodged from the securing clips. The cover was then rubbing against the axel causing a clunking pop noise.

So before work I checked under the car and there was nothing loose that I could see and nothing touching the axles.

I think ive norrowed it down to the drivers seat rail. I moved the seat forward a little bit and the sound seems to have gone away... Sucks for me though because im 6'2".

Hey Imstricken, you can change the title back to "Pop sound coming from driver's side rear" because the sound came back. It seems that it is not my driver's seat.

Thank you sir.... I have not heard the sound from the outside yet, nor do I even know if you can hear it from the outside (nobody else really drives my car)..... But when hearing it from inside the car, it made me think of this video:

Again, I'm not sure if my car makes this exact same noise or not.

i watched that video many times - sounds like:
steering
suspension
or drive train issue (most likely in the transmission, transfer-case, or differential)
bearings/hubs

its not exhaust shields. (at least not on this video) - but it could sound different in person. i'd crawl under and tap them all just to make sure

My thought would be if it was AWD... could it be transfer case or rear axles?

When we first purchased our Rogue we had to take it back to have the rear sway bar mounting bolts torqued properly because of a loud thumping/popping in rear.

The rear sway bar thing sounds more like it than a transfer case/rear diff issue... I'll see on Monday.

So the popping sound has gotten so loud and constant I've been going crazy. I believe the sound I'm hearing is coming from the rear cargo area. Last night I removed EVERYTHING from the rear of the car, and I had a heavy set of bolt cutters that I was keeping in the compartment above the spare tire that I removed... I noticed that that particular compartment was not entirely tight and could jiggle and made a plasticy click sound that I figured may be the culprit. So I turned the plastic screws clockwise to tighten it down and it didn't move anymore. I figured maybe the heavy bolt cutters moving back and forth loosened the plastic pieces a little. I also removed one of the metal pieces that belong to the jack because that was jiggling a little bit. I took a drive last night and no more popping...

The only "pop" sound I heard after that was coming from the engine bay when I take my foot off the gas and reapply it (not sure if that's normal). I'm also hearing it when I shift. But its nothing compared to the popping I've been hearing from inside the car.

So today I did some driving, and now I am hearing a faint popping coming from the back again, but again, its not nearly as loud as it was before. I feel like I've narrowed down the problem area. I will revisit the cargo area this afternoon and see if I can't really track down the sound. I want to avoid bringing the car to the dealer if I can.
