The sr20det motor was only supplied in the Euro and Jap Nissans, part of the reason is poor octane in the US compared to overseas.

So now people here running the sr20det motor swap in their nissans continue to use the 91-93 octane.

I hear that all sr20det's do not have the ecu learning capability to retard timing if and when detonation is detected. the knock sensor just tells the ecu to push into an 'emergency' running mode. The car will run like ****e.

share your thoughts on this

especially people who have done the swap, how do you feel the car is running? and did your sr20det get tuned for the gas we use here?

I've been using a stock blacktop ECU for 3 years now. No issues of knock yet.

Also, where in the world did you hear that the SR ECU can't retard timing?

And last time I was in japan, they weren't running any better octane than us from what i remember, but that was 5 years ago and my memory is a bit shoddy at times.

I am not sure the gas quality is the same now. before maybe I dont know.

but I heard it does not retard on a UK silvia forum, they say all nissans with the sr20det motor dont do that. They say that you will need to reprogram the ecu to work with the fuel you use, retard timing etc.

but its good to know that you havent had any problems

anyone else
