They (Ford) really screwed up with the mustang interior. I am so sick of this "retro" crap. I don't care if the thing pulls 10s...if I cant stand the inside, the car is fail.

Oh I agree with you. I was unsure really though if y'all were blurring the market lines. In the day of crossover suvs the lines have become quite blurred and I see that we were comparing driveline to driveline. It just seems like a test the C&D would do, and even with just a G and a Mustang the BMW 3 series would win....god I hate them.

I guess the days of who's overall fastest are kind of moot now. :( Now there is always a catch... it may be fastest... but it cost $xxx, or it has a turbo...but it is still a Buick.

There are many surprising cars out there. Some of the new domestics are quite quick and they have caught up with the times in regards to creature comforts (Chrysler excluded, because they still suck). I am sure the low end of the market will still have its quality issue but

I think the sedan might be a bit quicker, but I don't think it by much. one maybe two tenths of a second. A base sedan is pretty bare bones and I think the base coupe is still modestly appointed.

TIME TO MOVE FORWARD!!!! Can not sell myself on that interior.....I know my G is dated compared to the new G37's, but my G coupe interior is far beyound the current crap that's in that mustang.

I've easily beat a base model mustang in my g37x. i did get smoked by a suited up GT mustang. With that said, i'd still get a G37 because of the interior. I dont understand why Ford keeps the retro look in the mustangs? No offense, but the baby boomer generation runs the domestic market, thus i drive an import.

You may be right, but don't lump us all in there. The last American car I bought was an AMC Javelin.

When the new GT's came out it was my favorate race at the track. I got beat by a Bullitt a couple times but all the other GT's were 2-6 tenths slower then my G. I think the RT Chargers are the only 2011 pony cars I can still beat at the track.

They are fast but not as fast as you might expect I have raced them a few time at the track. They beat you in the back end of the 1/4 up to the 1/8th its a close race.

Here in Phoenix they run 13.3's when I run 14.0

I test drove an SS. Again, crappy interior...but livable. What's not livable is #1 the size of the interior is way small. #2, the back window view is REALLY bad. Be careful on the highways, they may not see you when they change lanes.

My last American car was a 53 Cadillac.
That was a long time ago
Had to sell it when I got drafted.
It had a big back seat and brings back memories, :chuckle:

They all seem to be either red or yellow, so that should help.

New SRT 8 will be 6.4. Even bigger. Anyways I agree. We all love the pony cars but none of us can really stand the interior. They especially FURD impress me more and more what they come out with. Just can't stand the retro. If they had modern interior in the new GT. I could see myself having one. Till just stick with testdriving them frequently. Lol

I'm also impressed with a lot of what Ford's doing. If they could offer a euro-nippo style AWD performance sedan, they could probably lure me. Like a Fusion with a V6 EcoBoost and a rear-bias AWD. Unfortunately, they're going to use the 4cyl EcoBoost and their AWD is front-biased.

Even us "Baby Boomers" are sick of the retro fad. Why should I buy a car I drooled over 40 years ago when I can get a sleek sexy car. Also....without trying to sound like a girl...isn't 300 to 350 hp really enough for a DD street car? I don't really want to go to jail for racing some punk in a souped up Civic. I don't go to the track any more, if I did I would take my Camaro. As far as I'm concerned, my '95 Camaro is a lot prettier than the 5th gens.

I'm happy with both of my Z's! :dance

I can't believe people are buying 550hp V8 cars still. Seriously...

550hp on the street is stupid. Plus with the new technology all of it is slimmed down through the first 3 gears, so you'll never even feel the 550. Then when you finally get into 5th, you are already going to fast, and nothing feels as good as the 1-3 pull. Speed is just speed, Speed also kills. I do 0-60 pulls, after 60, theres really nothing pulling, and I'm just going fast, which is equally as stupid.

The G cannot even be punched on a 2 lane street in the middle of town. Why would you put 550hp in something that if you dare to punch the gas in you'll kill everyone including yourself.

I don't think street legal cars should have anything over 380 at the wheels. It is all just to fast anyways.

Now if you build a car, ok that is different. But for something being sold by the dealer... come on. Dealer doesn't even want you puttin it in the floor lol

I think it's mostly about reminiscence and fantasy at this point, girlfriend. Partly borne out by Joe renaming the thread and paring it down to its post-hijack topic. I do agree with you about how much is enough. I don't want to race some punk in an anything. Just the other day some kid in a vette parked beside me in the left lane on I-95. I made eye contact and just started laughing and shaking my head.

you know what id love to see, an AWD Vette. this is another case of a car staying retro in the drive train, im not knocking RWD, just saying an AWD option vette could attract more buyers and make them even more of a DD, especally up north. I mean imagine all that power actually going to the ground instead of just wasting tires at the start line...

Count me as one of the baby boomers very much over the retro before it began.
Yeah, fun to look at....when they first came out...

I hear the 2014 mustang will be a smaller mustang with IRS & alum. supercharged 5.4.
From the pics I saw, the rear looks to be going in the right direction, front looks improved too, but has a ways to go.

Sort of Pantera-ish body styling, and the projected improvements smell like they're going to take it upscale, probably ending up pricewise more a threat to the Vette than a comparo to the Camaro.

Now that would indeed be interesting.

They would have to have 1 hell of a driveshaft though. Since the transmission is in the rear of the car, I would imagine the transfer case would have to live back there too. That would really open the market IMO, but I am sure some of the vette purists would find something to complain about.

Nowadays you can have an awd setup without compromising power or economy. Well at least if it is constantly variable like the ATESSA system. Not like Audis almost 4wd system that uses a fixed differential in the middle of the car.

Since every 2007+ requires some sort of VDC having a 500hp rwd car is kind of overkill. I am sure it is a blast to drive in the off chance you find traction.

I spent a few days driving an M56x recently and I still do not think I could deal with that much (420hp) on a daily basis. My DD now had 160ish several years ago and I have no problem exceeding the speed limit, I have seen people get beat with much faster cars just because you (a) cannot get traction or (b) don't want to push it too hard.

--Kudos to Joe-- for splitting this, I was looking at my posts and was curious as to why I joined a pony car talk thread....lol :1

yeah when i was at the track last, this guy who claimed to have a 400hp mustang, couldn't keep up with me out the dig, it wouldnt be until im half way down the track that he finally caught up AFTER his wheels caught the ground. He was so frustrated LOL that my "luxury POS car" was staying with him down the track. But it was just the AWD working in my favor :)

An AWD vette would be a game changer, i mean they already dominating GT racing with just RWD...

i want my g37x a little bit closer to 400 bhp and i'll be good, intake and exhuast should do the trick.
