I have a 1969 pontiac GTO convertible that's been on blocks since 2000 and a 1997 USDM Y33 Infinity Q45 that took a minor hit in front. I may part out the Q45 and the engine/auto trans are very solid (135k miles) so it got me thinking about potentially transplanting it into the GTO to get it road worthy.

The Pontiac does not have a number's matching engine so I would not mind the "sacrilege" in the concept of crossing platforms. If it could be done somewhat painlessly on a budget without making any permanent cuts/modifications to the GTO I wouldn't mind doing it. The car is big so I would hope there would be no clearance issues and that it could fit up with only fabbing 3 custom mounts and coupling the driveshaft. Obviously there are other elements to be thought out as well.

I know it's not a VH45 and I'm not considering a turbo but I'm not looking for super performance here. I've swapped drivetrains more than twice and having a trouble free (stock) reliable engine in this old beast (that gets 20+ mpg) would make it a comfortable driver. I wanted some insight from the forum community before I really consider doing it.

Does somebody make engine mount flanges that would bolt to my VH41?

HELL YEAH!!!

Why not? There's a guy here in town putting an RB26DETT into a '46 Plymouth.

The Y33 engine / drivetrain are pretty bulletproof...

I forgot to ask- Can anybody tell me the easiest method of overcoming the immobilizer key requirement in the q45?

Also what ECU's would be necessary from the donor vehicle? I don't need ABS or TCS but would want the engine to run and transmission to shift properly

Car: lots of unique hot rods, and customs, with modern engines, and a good truck to pull the trailer.

WHO AND WHERE,??

that is one of my favorite bodies. I own a 41.

That is not a bad swap, but keep in mind, it will not be a super powerful car as N/A with the Goats weight. I have built a few goats in my life, and they are great, this motor would be good on mileage, and power, but keep in mind its limits. 300hp is good though for stock n/a. I have a number of cars that will have one of these in them in the next few years. I think this is a great motor to use for swaps, especially with a good standard trans.

The What?

Ecu and wiring from a 90-93. 16 bit is easier then 32.

The Pontiac chassis probably only weighs about 5% more than the Y33. Keep in mind the weight loss it should see from dropping it's cast iron block and heads for a VH series engine.

Knowing the car (Y33 Q) quite well since my family bought it, I know it has one of the first nissan immobilizer keys. Not sure if the key is a transmitter to the ECU or if there is a sensor closeby the ignition lock cylinder but I'd have to figure that out.

I'd like to use the ECU and wiring I have. I'm cheap on time and money for this project. Hopefully somebody with VH41 swapping experience could chime in and share some thoughts.
