I am thinking of making my own poly isolators for my McKinney mounts, since the rubber ones are shot. I just wanted some input:

1. The mckinney mounts are rubber "pucks" in between a washer/disk with a press in type stud in each disk. the disks and studs are cast into the rubber. is there an advantage to doing this vs. having, say, a double ended stud running all the way through? it would seem that would be more sturdy. But it might transfer more vibration

2. how hard would you like them? cause if these work, I will make a few sets for my fellow Niconauts if you chip in (after you see them) for materials. I estimate making 3-4 sets for $60.The Energy suspension bushings are 85-90 on the shore A "hardness" scale, and the urethane comes in 60, 80, and 94. I dont care about harshness, so I was thinking 94. I dunno.

Input please!

I know some of you guys have beat up mckinney mounts. This will work, I just want to know the best way to make them. Lemme get some input!

thx for the link. I guess great minds think alike. The way he did it though, with the allthread all the way through, would defeat the purpose of a an isolator by transfering all the vibration to the chassis. I guess I'll just try it an find out. I'll post it up when I'm done.

actually, great minds think differently. Proof by your post, i didn't even think about the bolt going all the way through being an issue. At one point, if you think about it. Sure its all the way through, and its tightened down, but.... there is still a level of dampening through the material. I almost works like a shock with a coiled spring. The bolt being the shock(kinda because it doesn't rebound like a gas shock) and the rubber is the spring. So there is alot of dampening and vibration absorption that can be had.

You have a older kit, our new kits except the RB20 basic kit come with poly mounts and driver side race style puck mount is optional....the through bolt style passess much more of the engine vibs to the chassis and can cause problem for the daily driver, but it works well for the drifter/racer set up...
