I don't think I've ever seen an actual poll for stand alone EMSs. I thought I'd start one to see which ones measured up according to everyone here. I figure this is a way to combine all the threads about stand alones into 1 easy to interpret this is what I think thread.Which EMS do you think is the best?

c'mon everyone, so far 12 people have viewed this poll and only two have voted. what would you get if you had to make the choice?

Okay, now that is out of the way... most people are going to go with what they have experience using. If I were to get a standalone, I would get a TEC-3 because that is what my tuner is most comfortable with.

:Werd TEC seems to be the choice of most tuners.I think because of its simplicity.

Yup. I have seen it used to tune everything from twin turbo Lamborghini's to old school Alfa Romeo's. For what I'm doing with my car, it's a bit over kill. I'm just going to get a JWT retune and be done with it. The cost of a stand alone system, installation and tuning is 2-3 times as much as the JWT route.

I personally have a haltech for every minor change that happens with my motor. It is affordable and not so savvy on options. It also has datalogging like the tec and doesn't need a crank trigger like the tec needs. This is why I got mine. The only thing I hate about it is that it can't read knock.

Quite true. Most of the guys I know running haltechs (albeit all on DSM's) use the J&S SafeGuard system for monitoring/dealing with knock.

Basically it's a standard knock monitor -> retard ignition timing device. The cool part is that instead of retarding timing on all 4-cylinders across the entire next combustion cycle it only retards timing on the 1 knocking cylinder during the next combustion cycle.
