Haha, that makes two of us who just use their tach.

I have thought about getting a TomTom V1 or just finally stopping the lazy streak and crawling under the car and splicing two wires...but hey, you do what you do, right?

pretty old thread.

I've got an RB25 S1 in my S13 and I am using a DOHC Cluster, my tach works fine after being recalibrated, but i'm not exactly sure what I should do to get my Speedometer to work right. Everything else on the gauge cluster works right (fuel, temp, tach, etc.)

Haven't exactly checked to see how far off my speedometer is but I know it's nowhere close.

Also, my boost controller is reading in KM/H, and it matches up on my speedometer, but it's not how fast I am actually going.

Any recommendations, or is there a simple fix to this? (Some say Z32 speed sensor but IDK...)

I have done one S1 rb5 in an s13 with custom mounted z32 tach and cluster with z32 speedo gear with rb25 gear on it if I remember. It read a little low because I have 3.90 in the back. The other s13 is a hud car and uses dakota digital ppm converter. The Z32 speedo car does not show speed sig on my consult though.

I have JDM S13 Speedos for sale. If your stock ka speedo is reading too slow, the JDM S13 speedo can be calibrated with the pot on the back. Plus your speedo will read up to 180... email me at [email protected]

S13/RB25 - wired myself, wired in R33 GTS-T cluster, everything but the door ajar, boost and speedo work. I have used a friends car to pace my speed and wrote down engine rpm in 2nd, 3rd and 5th for 25, 35, 45 and 55 mph on an index card. Still havent hooked up reverse lts or speedo, i'm not gonna lie im pretty f'n lazy.

Did you all just adjust it all the way to the left?

It seemed accurate.

Now i have an RB20 trans though with a KA24DE speed sensor so its almost perfect.
The red gear is the stock rb25 gear isn't it?

So you just used a usdm z32 vss and moved the gear to the it? S13 or S14?

you have to wire up your reverse light switch up to your factory reverse light harnes, it doesnt matter wich reverse light switch wire goes cause its just an on off switch.

the reverse light harness plug is right by the fuse box on the passenger side (S14). you take the green and white wire and wire it up to the reverse light switch. now i dont know exactly where it is on a s13 but just look up the auto manual swap on a s13 and they usually cover the reverse lights for the ka harness.

theres 2 sensors that bolt in on the starter side of the rb25 trans, take an ohm meter and put it in reverse and check for continuity when the transmission is in reverse and the one that has continuity is the reverse switch but it should have no continuity when the trans is taken out of reverse.

Had my done by Gary at Syko. 89 S13 SOHC Cluster, didn't read at all, DOHC cluster swap not re-calibrated, read but was way off / below.

Plugged up the ConZult and ran Nissan Datascan on it, and it read fine from the ECU.

Going to get a DOHC re-calib to work both speedo and tach.

Thought id throw in

I wanted to post a follow-up to this for documentation.

As far as my Speedo went what I did was...

Put in a Z32 Non-Turbo Speed-SensorTook a J30 Speedo, and it read dead on with my ConZult(the speedo required quite a bit of fabrication to fit correctly, but works just fine)

For the Tach I just used the J30 as well, it also reads dead on also utilized my ConZult to confirm.

Pictures... J30 Speedo and Tach installed in S13 SOHC Cluster Housing, S13 Stock gauges are below the housing for comparison

Hey Slayter, what is the mph to rpm equation on the back of your j30 speedo? The 240's and I30's is 60MPH=1024RPM.

Yes this works for the RB25 transmission. I did this and used a GPS to verify my speed, I also used two different cars to verify the GPS's accuracy and I'd say it was give or take 3mph at most... Anyway, Swap the gears(Using the RB25 VSS' gear on the usdm n/a 300zx VSS, simple, all you need is some snap ring pliers), and youll have to also swap the insert or collar inside the connectors, youll see what im talking about when you get the new connector next to your old one, but its easy and it works. Edit: Forgot to say, Yes this is for s13s, however i imagine as long as you still have an RB25 transmission, itll work for an s14 as well. Can anyone verify or test this on an s14??And i dont know if the year matters for this, but the VSS i used was for a 94 n/a 300zx if i remember correctly
