Since the Q seems to have a reputation for killing batteries quickly, I thought I'd start collecting some data from the only folks who actually know how long the battery lasts...

Aside from establishing a rough idea of when you should start considering replacing your battery, perhaps we can use the results to identify which brands and/or models last the longest.

Since many battery brands are sold in several "trim levels", it would be helpful to also include the battery's pro-rated warranty period in months (i.e, Exide 72). This will help avoid making direct comparisons between a $40 Delco cheapie and a $120 Delco top-of-the-line model, for example.

TIP: Rather than going to the trouble of digging out the sales receipt, you can usually find the install date punched out of the label on the top of the battery - Usually, it's a year (i.e., 07) and a month (i.e. JAN).

I'll start off with mine:

Interstate 65 - Currently going strong at 20 months old. (Will edit this number for the age when it finally dies.)

So, what ya got, and how long ya had it?

Interstate 24, currently at 29 months, works like a champ.

Not the most exciting of threads, but it did make me go out there and check it

Interstate actually makes a battery that is warranteed for only 24 months?

nadirgholi, Sears sells about 5 different Diehard models in that size. Unless you also state the warranty length, it's just about impossible to know which model you're talking about!

Wow, the Q must really chew up batteries for some odd reason. I don't have a Q, but I have 2 optimas that I've had since 2001 in my 2 trucks.

Anyone here tried the "Big 3" with thier stock vehicle?

7 years on the Nissan battery installed when I bought the car with 42k on it. Has 87k now and it still works great. Best battery I have ever owned....Diehard Gold in my 300ZX is about 2 years old, my X-Terra has the stock battery, it is now 2 years old. Wife's Sentra has whatever battery the PO had in it and still works, had that car 2 years. I had bad luck with Optima's, I am wondering if I'm must really lucky with the Nissan battery in my Q or if they are good.

I dug thru my receipts and I couldnt find the exact date that I bought my battery... However I bought in summer of 2004, so its gonna be 3 years old soon if its not already.

Its a 48 month duralast gold that I got from autozone. Never left me stranded except when I leave the stereo on too long or left a light on, which I do sometimes. Its been drained completely a few times and it still charges fine. I think that the battery is in the trunk it last a little longer.

In light of BadQ45t's post my old Q (the battery that the duralast replaced, this duralast has been in 2 Q's) had a Nissan battery in it, it could have been the orignal factory one because there was no record of it being replaced under warranty and I talked to the previous owner and he said he only changed the oil from like 60k to 120k miles.

I have an Optima Red Top for a little under 2 years. Works great even with the recent alternator problems I've had recently, It started strong. This is the forth battery since new. 12 years, 4 batteries, 3 years per battery. I think that's a little quick. I had my 94 Honda Accord for 9 years and only changed the battery once. That's more what I'm use to.

So only 15 members have batteries in their Qs?

My driving isn't typical - all highway - but I have a nothing-special battery that was in the car when I bought it out of Louisiana almost 4 years ago.

Mine gets maybe 300 starts a year and at least an hour of driving time for each start.

That's amazing! 300Z batteries run very hot (located near the exhaust manifold) - My sister can't keep one alive for more than 2 years in hers.

Quote »anyone wanna give me a line for low miles (nissan stopped making their own batterys yonks ago) nissan batterys[/quote]They start slowly dying the moment they roll off the production line (although abuse further shortens their lifespan). I doubt that even a NOS Nissan battery would have much life left in it now.

$30 per year [prorated battery] is insignificant compared to the other $2470 in annual maintenace and repairs.

Well, that didn't take long...

The Interstate 65 died today, at almost exactly 24 months.

Since heat is almost certainly a factor, I'm going to slap together a heat shield around the new Delco 72. Had originally considered cutting a Group 24 size trolling motor plastic battery case down to size, but I don't think it would fit. Right now, the plan is to use Reflectrix (aluminized bubble-wrap) and aluminum duct tape, leaving only the top of the battery open to the engine compartment. I also plan to leave a small air gap between the sides of the battery and the Reflectrix, to provide some circulation.

we figure 3 years (Walmart 60 month) and its on borrowed time. Houston weather is murder-A/C and aux fans on max a lot, slow engine speeds in traffic, really sucks juice and then rams it back.
