poll: how many bb garrett turbos have died?

i remember hearing about many many bb garrett turbos locking up very early in their lives. anyone on here have one that did the same thing? (i heard about them back around 2000-2002 or so. they may have changed something since then.

Ive heard the GT30R turbos shaft would break with a few months of use. My GT2871R has lasted me over a year now with constant 20psi boosting so im happy.

Oh great..thats the turbo I am planning on buying very soon ...i dont see how garrett could make faulty turbos though..i mean common..we are talking about garrett

i have seen two lock up. one was a gt2871r and one was a gt2540r i think. is everyone using the inline restrictors?

Talk with Full Race. They have had a couple GT30R's go bad.

my boy had his gt2876r on for about 3months before it seized up

This sucks..I've never heard of this happening before..I'm going to email full race right now and get their opinions on these turbos

I just got the email back from full race..the reason for these two 30r's going bad was not garretts fault..it was caused by the B.O.V. they were running which was not functioning properly (it was not opening) causing compressor surge and therefore ruining the shaft and compressor wheel in both turbos..the third turbo went on with a brand new B.O.V. and everything was A OK

well my 2871R died only casue my oil line got clogged =( i actually could have saved it if i would have pulled the line off instead of driving it around for two weeks. =( but it was rebuilt any way so. as of GT series turbos failing i have not herd of that. i have had a few friends that have rand 30r for over a year or two with no prob. boosting 20-25 psi.

ya i dont think any of garretts turbo's going bad is garretts fault..hey jubee whats your AIM sn im the guy that lives in FL that talked to you a few times about matt and his lifters on there but my buddylist got deleted

I've been boosting my gt2871r at 19psi for the past 2-3 months, no problems.

lost 2 GT30R in 6 months. Have had very good luck with the GT28rs and the GT2871R they each lasted over 2 years, racing them 2-3 times a month...

any idea of why the 30r's went bad? did you use anything different with the 30r's that you didnt use with the other turbos?
