I am considering the same options currently for my '98. However I am also throwing in a slightly more unconventional engine option. The 4G63 has been swapped into a lot of RWD cars, has plenty of domestic support, can handle 450hp reliably on stock internals, is an iron block, everything for the motor is dirt cheap, and I already know it like the back of my hand, etc. The list goes on. All I need is a transmission, motor mounts, and a driveshaft. The rest I can get for next to nothing as far as money goes. Of course I would probably be ostracized for even trying that here...

no problem with saying that, i like the 4g63 engine and have done a ton of research on it. one thing whats the difference between the evolution and eclipse's 4g63?

They bumped the compression from 8.5:1 (2g motor, its 7.8 for the 1g motor) to 8.8:1. The engine sits on the passenger side of the bay in the Evo rather than the drivers side for the DSM. There are more differences, but I haven't done much research on the Evo's 4g63 yet. I would be using a '90-'92.5 motor anyway as they are stronger than the '92.5+ engines.

the reason i asked was cuz i have a friend that might be getting a awd dsm and i was thinking about swapping in the evo's 4g63 due to the crank walk issue. I was thinking the evo's 4g63 had a slightly different block cuz i havent heard any stories of crankwalk in it and it produces like 50hp more

They are completely different engines as far as swapping is concerned. Not going to happen without a ton of work and money.

Crankwalk isn't as abundant as people say. Rumors fly. You would be better off installing a 90-94 motor than an Evo motor anyway.

I thought you meant the new Evo. The Evo 1-3 motors will bolt in as they are the exact same engine as the 90-91 DSM.

Well, only the late 95-99 motors crankwalk. The 90-early 95 motors have very little chance of it happening. (Less than 1%) Also the 98-99 motors, while still walking, do not do it as often as the 96-97 engines.

I voted KA-T for several reasons

1: you already have a KA I'm assuming.

2: You can turbo the KA with parts that you would want to use for upgrade on SR20 (BOV, turbo, FMIC, etc)

3: Then if you blow the motor or something, then you can decide weather you want to get another KA and do it better, or get an SR20 and upgrade it with the items you got.

4: I find the KA more appealing

5: You won't be JDM tight (good thing IMO)

Get your facts straight buddy. I ASKED for that title from Noah.

Don't go around thinking it's punishment.
