Something in your post drives home a very important point. Over the years gerrymandering has really distorted the districts and many politicians in California no longer represent the areas they were originally elected to represent. As a result, people like Dreier only know that they represent a predominantly Republican voting district but even the city he was originally elected in was taken out of his district as more Democrats moved there.
They don't know their constituency any more on a personal level. Since all these politicians do any more is buy votes with lobbyist money, negatively campaign and protect themselves through gerrymandering, we no longer have representatives who represent us here.
