I'd like to see what people think would come of this. It's an unlikely scenario I'll admit.

What if the US began accepting applications for statehood?

I like to pose these what if questions to myself, but I wondered what other people would think. Would it be good? Bad? What would the criteria be? Who would apply?

If they did, Puerto Rico would be the first to apply and probably the first to gain acceptance.

I ask myself this every now and then, too, but always come back to the question, "What happens to the flag?" 50 is a good number, how do you have 51 stars on the flag? To keep the general design of the flag the same, we would have to add four states which would align the stars into a grid.

The way things are going with Obama, maybe we could add Cuba as a state? Now we just need two more. And maybe Mexico, too. Seems like a lot of them want to be Americans anyway.

I wondered how many countries in Africa would apply. There are several with resources we could use, that could sure use our help.

Makes me kinda worry that we'd implement to many of our own policies...The US on a global scale kinda scares me.
