Polishing your ex35

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi everyone, I'm new here and the car is my moms ... BUT i still get to drive it and its on my top 10 list of best experiences haha

My question is about detailing the ex35, so I don't know if this should go into the detailing forum or not, but since this is specific about the ex i'll put it here.

I'm curious about polishing the car, it seems wrong to take off a layer (thin though it may be) of the precious self healing clear coat, what do you experienced owners do?

thanks

-jonny

edit: also any advice on detailing the car would be nice,i've searched away and have seen very few threads on detailing the ex35 specifically

Just did mine after a long, cold winter and I used Dawn dish soap first (on the advice of detailers) followed by the Meguiar's Smooth Surface clay kit(haven't graduated to the big leagues and used the Zaino system yet.. lol) followed by 2 coats of Meguiar's NXT Tech wax. The car is smooth as glass and has a nice, deep shine. I am actually quite anal about the exhaust tips and restored that nice, golden glow on the inside of the pipes after a winter of neglect by using an SOS pad followed by Blue Magic metal polish. The SOS pads don't scratch and removed all the black crud that built up over the winter.

A BIG Canadian Welcome to NICO, j0nny!!

You're giving me an idea here ... maybe I can get my kids (due to be 16 yrs old in Aug) to detail my EX in exchange for some upcoming driving privileges!!

(I went to high school in Mississauga decades ago! )

Cheers,David

Haha, I wouldn't trust young'ins with the car until after a few more years of experience lol.

I am about to polish my EX as well but I am wondering about the clear film kit I got as an option when I bought my EX.<

Is there any risk to put wax on that film ?

None at all. I used a claybar on it and 2 coats of wax and it's just fine!!

Or, you could open the door and stand on the running board, grabbing the roof rail if you need to.

Cheers,David
