polishing wheels

Hey guys, what the best method in polishing aluminum wheels such as the 96 se wheels? Iv'e been searching on the internet and have found some compounds that desolve oxidation due to poor maintanance and brake dust, such as myself and was curious. I let my car sit for a few months while I was in between my 1 and 2 sr mtor due to funds and the rear brakes were shot and I hade a lot of rotor shavings that oxidized to the rear rims. I know about wet sanding and starting out with 320 grit and going all the way to 1500 and them use mothers and then wax to seal. Do ya'll have anymore good ideas?
