I'm about to start polishing the valve cover on my SOHC, but I ran into a small problem. I can't find anything to take off the black coating on it. I was wondering what anyone else has used.

Grab a wire brush and some strong @ss paint thinner at Napa Auto Parts. Just work the paint thinner into the paint with the wire brush and make sure the paint is always wet from paint thinner. The paint should just come off little by little.

You could go to autozone pick up a can of aircraft or airplane paint remover one of the two.And walla itll come off.But a warning do it away from the car and not in the wind.Itll chew through paint fast as hell.

I've actually already finished it. I did it the hard way...I sanded it all off, and all that meant was more and more sanding to get all the scratches out. It took about 18 hours, looks good, I'm going to pull it off again and do it a little better. I finished it and noticed some missed spots.

I'll post some pics by tonight or tomorrow morning. I use 60 to start with and went up to 80 then 120 then 400 then steel wool, which is why I have to do it again, I didn't have the grits in between so it still has some scratches in it.
