He says it just slips on and tightens with screws(exactly what I need, an installation I can do and doesn't require soldering or welding)...just wondering if anyone has seen these and if they think they're decent?
He's got 100% feedback and I figure even if it only lasts a few years, it only cost $45. Besides this one, does anyone know where I can get something like this that is sold in stores? Maybe save $15 shipping.
Yikes $45 for an exhaust tip! That's on the high end of the price range and is actually closer (if not more expensive) than what you might expect to pay at a Nissan dealership for a factory Rogue tip. (Even without the $15 shipping its still on the high end)
The good thing about the eBay tips is he advertises them as being stainless steel. Stainless steel is nice because you don't have to worry about them rusting away. That said , there is nothing mystical or special about the eBay "Rogue" tail pipe tips. In truth isn't anything that makes it Rogue specific. (i.e., its not a custom tip for Rogue only). An exhaust tip is an exhaust tip is an exhaust tip! Exhaust tips come in different styles and diameters. The key in buying a tip is simply finding one that will slip over your stock tail pipe (regardless of what car you drive) The exhaust pipe of the Nissan Rogue (all model years) has an inlet diameter of 2.25 inches. So, as long as you find a tip that says it will fits a 2.25 pipe that's all you need. Also, most aftermarket tips are held in place with a threaded screw or two. You can even find them at Pep Boys, Auto Zone or any number of auto part stores.
The various price ranges you'll find are usually the due to the difference between polished stainless steel versus chrome plated steel, the quality of the chrome plating process, and the thickness (gauge) of the sheet metal used during the manufacturing process. (Thin gauge pipes won't last as long) Why not stainless? To the purist... chrome plated steel looks better (warmer/deeper) than high polished stainless. If properly cleaned and waxed the high quality chrome plated steel tips can easily last for 5 or more years and look as good as new. On the down side they are more prone to pitting and rust. Moisture and water vapor can pool in the spaces between the tip and the exhaust pipe. This can cause the non stainless models to rust away from the inside out. (no big deal if you can replace them for ten bucks every 3 or 4 years. Stainless tips, if cleaned and waxed with the rest of your car should outlast the exhaust system.
If you don't feel like shopping your local brick and mortar store ... there are plenty of online sites selling exhaust tips... (like JC Whitney) selling tips that will fit the Rogue as low as $19.99...
