I have a nice coat of Zaino polish on my coupe and it will be spring time soon...time to do it all over! My question is should I strip the polish down and start new? By striping, I mean using dishsoap and clay the car (again) and then reapply the Zaino multiple times.

OR

Should I just wash and polish?

What do you guys think??

Might as well strip it down for ultimate dirt removal, or if there is a "Cleaner Wax" from zaino that in a sense cleans the current wax job and reapplys a new coat.

I would personally strip the car with Palmolive dishsoap and start with a fresh palate. When I lived in the midwest, I used to strip the old wax off my cars about once a year and re-wax. We had a lot of road salt and contaminants that I wanted off the car... Now that I'm in AZ, we don't have that issue, but I'll still do the same. I just stripped and claybarred the G last weekend, then put a couple coats of Mothers wax on her... she shines like never before! ((Whistles cat call at my G))

Some other guys may think this is a bit overkill, but just my $.02.

Let us know what you decide...Dave

People seem to recommend a complete dewaxing, and then a claying, then a washing, etc. To me that is more work than I'm willing to do. I just wash well and wax over whatever wax is left.

Clay bar is sooo nice!

Wouldn't clay bar remove old wax??

Dish soap will for sure and Palmolive is soft on hands so

I've been under the impression that polishing agents strip the wax and other gunk off.

Zaino used to tell you to re-apply the Z-1 every 6 months on top of what you had on the car. Z-1 is the Pre-Cleaner and Gloss Conditioner.....BUT, I don't see it on the site any more....Maybe it was BS???

I would wash it good (Zaino), clay bar areas if needed, and start applying polish. I don't have the time like I used to with 2 G's, cobra, Max to keep up!!!Not to mention me needing to get hit the heavy bag hard today for all of the wings I ate Saturday night!!! But, loosing an hour last night...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The touchless car wash that doesn't have one of those track things or a thing you have to drive up onto.

Mine's made in Mexico... his name is Alfonzo and he does a great job cleaning the car for about $20! Now that's lazy!

So...the general consensus seems to be strip and reapply. Probably a good idea anyway as I need to do my driver's side door and front bumper over again.

I visited a distrbutor for the product and saw his Viper. It was the deepest shine I had ever seen. He told me that it had over 50 coats of Zaino over the course of a year. He said no need to remove it (remember, it is not wax). In fact, you only get that deep shine after several coats, anyway.

It boils down to how well you maintained your finish. If it is clean and not oxidized, I would put down another layer (or several) of Zaino. IF not, I would strip and re-claybar; not because you need to remove the Zaino, just because you need to remove the contaminants and start over again.

Zaino is great stuff.

I've never used the one step stuff, so I don't know how good it is.I use the Z-7 Car Wash, Z-2 Polish, (Z-5 Swirl/scratch remover), and Z-6 Spray.

I try to keep a cover on the cobra. When I take it off, I use a california duster to get the cover dust off and z-6 spray with a 100% cotton towel.

I've never put dish washing detergent on the cobra, the guy that I bought it from kept Zaino on it, so I just keep putting polish on it. I hope that the G's paint looks half as good as the cobra's after 12 years!!

On occasion, I'll wash it and put 2 or 3 coats on it in one day and then maybe another 1 or 2 coats on it the next day. Zaino z-2 can be put on in the sun or shade. I believe Z-5 has to be put on in the shade.

They say to keep putting on the z5 until they go away.I believe that there is a new swirl remover that they say is a little more aggressive call Fusion.

The guy I buy from is down in South Charlotte. Super nice guy. He also puts on the 3M invisible bras. He used to fly 737's and do this stuff on the side. He's retired from flyig and does this now full time.

Anyway, it might be good for you to talk to him. I'll send you his contact info. if you want.

Can you guys keep a straight difference between polish and wax

Oh, sorry I got carried away oops there's another one.

If I ever get the time, I'd like to do the dish soap, then claybar her again, then polish, then wax.

Anybody use Nu Finish?

My beloved Consumer Reports says that they (wax & polish) are used interchangeably by most manufacturers now. Polish used to be the more abrasive of the two and was used to buff out scratches. Waxes were for protection. Now, they both are used for glossy prettyness and protection.SO, my beloved Zaino is a polish....but, it provides glossy prettyness and protection. So, it acts like a wax.....you made me go do research time for beer.

I actually did try the Nu Finish on the 91 240 that we had.We purchased it used and the hood was faded and dull.Did absolutely nothing for it. I was disappointed. Gave it to my neighbor.

BUT, the 240 had trottle problems which led me to NICO!!!!!

I should have kept the 240...

Why don't you let Noah choose it. He's pretty clever at those things...

And why do I keep reading the thread title as Polish Question, as in

Dawn and clay bar, then re-polish.
