slightly off topic but of all the forums on nico, i trust you guys the most. Enough flattering, my question is what is the best police detector for its price? Something that isn't too cheap but not too expensive, and is worth every penny. What do you guys have and does it actually help? Thanks in advance

you get a big smack in the face for that.. police detector?... try a donut!

On the other hand, if you were looking for a RADAR detector (this tells you when theres RADAR being used, not if a cop is waiting there not using it)..

Escort 8500 x50...

Unless you get that one (i own it), you are just fooling yourself.

HA! Valentine One, OWNS ALL!!! It mops the floor with the x50 time and time against. However, I think they are both outta your price range.

Time and time against? really?

Valentine=Navy boys love em! its a much larger and more expensive option, this is intended for people consistently going 100+ lol..

Depends on how you look at it... A nice NJ speeding ticket can run you north of $300 if your on rt9 "safe corridor"

I misspelled a word, SUE ME! Wait, don't do that, I'd lose. Crazy money laundering banker.

The Valentine One is adaptable to many accessories! One being an integration into the license plate, and only a small display screen in the cabin

Good god burton! Starting a new trend in typing each one of your sentences in its own post? Sheesh

thing is though, radar detectors only pick up cops when cops have the radar on.... many cops dont even turn it on and if they really want to give you a ticket they just will and in court they'll say you looked like you were going a certain speed and they take some classes or something so the judge declares that its like the same thing as getting you on radar or something. someone with law experience could probably get out of it but for average ppl, nope

Burton, check out http://www.radarbusters.com/ they could probably give you an idea and help you decide. I have the Passport 9500i with GPS and love it. For those cops that turn on their radar targeting certain cars to get their speed. I've seen my radar detector go on then off, on then off because it was picking that up a half a mile out. (not sure if you understand what I'm trying to say there but...yeah)

I've also "heard" driving in the slow lane helps. They usualy point the radar at the #1 lane (far left), so this gives you more time for the Radar detector to do it's thing.

I got the Escort Passport 8500 for christmas this past year. its gotten me out of several tough spots. i'd say if youre pretty ticket prone this would be a good investment. if you only get one, once every few years then just hold off.

I've actualy read the Escort beat the valentine in tests, i dont know how true that is though. The Cobra's are basically a watered down version, I would recommend the Passport. the only difference between the 8500 and 9500 is the GPS feature, I've never seen if it actually "remembers" what is a false alarm or not.

But yea, a Passport will run you 300-350.

+2 for Escort ...

According to the November 2004 issue of Autoweek magazine's review, they called the Valentine 1 the "Chicken Little of radar detectors" due to all the false alarms ... http://www.radarbusters.com/be...e.cfm

More info here: http://www.laserveil.com/en/ul...sions/ that says Valentine now fixed this false alerting problem ... but my vote still goes for Escort. (Article was updated June 07)

And lastly: The Valentine 1 generated the highest number of false alarms .... , no longer top dog ..., seems to be trapped in a time warp... reflects 1980s thinking. Read more here: http://radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=9090 (Updated Jan 2007)

Just want to add my thanks to you guys for posting the various links to help me make my decision on the best radar detector for my use. I started out thinking the Valenitine One would be my choice but now I am leaning to the BEL Pro RX65. I'll keep tuned in for any additional info.

I got the Escort Passport 8500 X50 I think it was jersey that i read mainly uses the X band which should be simple to detect as long as you have a good filter for all the electric doors and other junk x bands, otherwise you wont know whats a cop and whats a garage door opener.

If it is jersey that uses mainly x band you can't just get a cheap cobra or other cheap device unless you want tons of the x band junk signals

Yes it does it detects all bands currently used in the US. If you don't do alot of highway driving this really won't help you. Cause thats were most of the cops are here at least. The x50 is a great radar detector, but lets just put it this way just because you have a radar detector does not mean that it will detect every cop that is using radar and laser. and most definatly not always prevent you from getting caught. There is no RD that will protect you if the cops are using laser and you are speeding

what i'm saying is that while a quality radar detector is a wise investment for some. It is not for everyone.

ok let me know if anyone thinks this is a bad idea, if you do explain why...

I am basically sold on the ESCORT 9500ci.

-I dont plan on selling my car ANY TIME soon.-I can't afford any more freaking tickets(LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE SPEEDING)-Appears to me to be the best one around, dont care bout it being stuck in the car-Dont care about price-Dealer/Installer real close to my location.

What yall think let me know!!
