Do 240's have any sort of pocket logger software like 1G DSMs and I think most OBD I mitsu/chryslers where you can plug like a palm in and read timing, knock, etc...

I've heard of people having issues with the MDM-100 not working in S13 SR's (Comm Port Error or something). Is there anything else similar? I heard abotu peopel rigging up the DSM pocketlogger system to work with SR's anyone know anything about this?

unfrgivn, what about an Apex S-AFC. The new S-AFC II can read knock on vehicles equiped with factory knock sensors as well as other useful tuning info; throttle position, boost/vacuum pressure, % of a/f correction, etc.... Obviously, it will tune your fuel curve and now has 12 adjustable points instead of 8 as with the original S-AFC. It doesn't show everything that Digital Tuning's Pocketlogger does. The knock reading is one of the most important tools IMO, along with EGT and A/F mixture. Just my $.02 :D BTW if you wanna price, just email me. ;)

Actually was just reading up on the s-afc and apparently the way it detects knock is by measuring the engine noise at different speeds and then uses that to determine if the engine is knocking based on noise, which I've been told really doesn;t work that well.

Is there anything I could even hack together to run some sort of software on my Palm? Anyone? Damn DSM's getting all the cool stuff!

The S-AFC II splices into the wire coming from the knock sensor to the ECU. It receives the same signal that the ECU does and is able to use that signal to determine knock. I'm not sure of what else is out there for the 240 that will work the same as the Pocketlogger. You could try researching Edelbrock's QuikData datalogging system. It monitors EVERYTHING but should also be lots of work to wire and install. You would need a laptop to read the output.~Brendan

Well I have the pocketlogger software on my Palm and I am going to order the palm to DSM diagnostic port cable (it's only $20) and try to figure out what signals the dsm port sends versus the 240's port. Then try to hack into a similar signal. I read a post a long time ago that someone successfully did it, but there was no explanation of how.

If it works awesome and I'll post a write-up, otherwise I lost $20 and I don't go out drinking one night. Works for me.

More power to you! Go for it! Frankly, I hope you do figure it out because the Pocketlogger is a great idea and an excellent tool. Keep us posted on this! The really difficult will be choosing your car over alcohol! :thumbup~Brendan

Yes I know it's a sad state of affairs when a good night of drinking hangs in the balance. Heh, I'll probably still go down to chopper and get a 12-pack of Beast Ice ($4.99/case 24hrs/day) even if I buy the cable and it doesn't work :ylsuper

Remember that beer I was talking about earlier... well I think I was working on that mission and forgot about the whole pocketlogger thing.

Seriously though, I really haven't had the time to mess with this. I've been way too busy the last few months.

Here's the reply:

"We have looked into it but we have no plans for one for that car."

Nissan uses consult...

over here the 300zx guys have made their own version called conZult. It runs on a laptop and you can see all your ecu data. You can even make changes but those changes cannot be saved.

I'm not sure it will work on youe ecu's too and its also going to be expensive.I was lucky they wanted to do some testing with it.
