My 2000 Max. is throwing a po400 code,EGR insufficient or excessive flow detected, what does this mean and how do I go about fixin it. The car has 189,000 miles and occasionaly will die when sitting at a red light. Also the abs light comes on sometimes and goes off and parts store cannot find a code for this in the puter.

it sounds like your AIR INTAKE CONTROL VALVE and SENSOR are bad...that would be my first place to look.

take a look inside your throttle body, if it's all gunky, clean it out with SPRAY SEA FOAM.

Check to see if your EGR valve is sticking

Pull the hood and while idling give it the gas on the throttle.See if the valve is moving at the same time. Be careful anddont get burned or caught up in the motor/belts.

Clarifying, you probably cant see the valve move but should beable to feel the diaphram move with your fingers

It says in my book to check the movement of the diaphram with my fingers to see if it is easy to move or hard.Nissan sure didnt put this stuff where it is easy to work on. As far as the idle air valve I replaced it last year and seafoamed the intake and everything I could get to, the car still died often. Recently I cleaned the maf sensor and it seemed to stop dying but continued to try to stall under hard acceleration, maybe egr valve not sure. Thanx for all help.

It looks as if the egr valve is a sealed unit and cannot be felt to see for proper operation. I will test with an ohmmeter to check if bad. I will keep yall posted.

For P0400 code, common problem is egr pipe clogged w/ carbon deposits specially to the intake manifold location, remove & clean only or replace pipe if too much deposits & can't be cleaned.

For engine dying, many possibilities, could be bad ISC motor & ecu, maf (need to see ALPHA) or just ecu reprogram only, depends on what ecu number u got. No other codes except P0400?

For abs light, u need scan tool to retrieved the abs code first.

Yes po400 is the only code I get, there was no abs code at all, it just comes on then off. Where is the egr pipe at I looked and could not really locate it, it looks all electronic? It is still ongoing although now the damn thing has stopped dying for now.
