Hi All,

I have the following codes on my '96 Q45T:

P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction Bank 1 or 1 SensorP0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

I erased both codes just 2 days ago but now both are back. So far the car drives 100% normal, no knocking and no strange noises.

Anyone had the same problem? Are these hard to fix? Are these 2 problems related? I wonder why they failed together because they seem unrelated.

Thanks for your feedback.

Wilson

O2 is easiets to remedy. Call http://www.sparkplugs.com and get one. don't trust website to refer to the correct part.

Then see if KS comes back.

Consider yourself lucky (car complains) in an unfortunate (expensive parts and labor) malady. I cannot place the relevance O2 has on the knock..Could be a bad knock sensor going first and giving a poor report to the ECU, resulting in excessive fuel damaging O2 ? (shot in the dark) Regardless, almost 10 years is time to replace the O2 sensor...an average of $100 each.. As for the knock, replace all the hoses and gaskets..your car will thank you for the next 100k miles. You will notice a big difference.. Lot of intimidation going into the plenum area for some people..not too bad if you ask me... Good luck with the repairs..

I think I will take my car to All Imports in San Diego to have everything under the plenum replaced. I will probably replace all O2 sensors and definitely the 2 knock sensors. Jerry Tucker, the shop owner, said it will be about $1000+. That sounds reasonable because the labor is only about $500 and it will take about a full day. I could probably do it myself but the pros will be able to get it done much faster.

The thing I don't understand is why the codes didn't come back until 2 days after I erased them. If the parts are bad, shouldn't the codes come back right away? Jerry said the knock sensor probably went out on me some time ago but didn't trigger MIL until the O2 sensor expired. I just hope there are no other electrical circuit issues.

Thanks,

Wilson

EDIT: I meant O2 sensor can fail intermittantly. Duh!

KS can fail intermittantly.

Have Jerry install all under plenum hoses and new KS sensors as extra labor is minmal, and yo will be good for 10 yrs. as opposed to ? yrs.

Get the hoses from Joe http://www.everythinginfiniti.com

Get the O2 from ww.Sparkplugs.com , but call them to be sure you are getting the correct ones. Don't trust website. About $55 each.

When it's done be sure to report back on your Jerry Tucker experience.

Check the injectors while you have easy access if any R&R is needed - you want to be troublefree for the next 100K.

Been reccomending Jerry for years - you'll be in good hands !

In 2003 Jerry worked on my Stillen tie rods, shocks, new rear brake calipers, metal matrix pads and transmission oil/gasket. They did an excellent job and torque painted everything as I asked them to. I drive 2 hours one way to his place so that tells you how pleased I am with All Imports. Last time Jerry even paid for 1 day of my rental car charge because he took longer than expected to finish my car. That kind of customer service is as good as any Infiniti or Lexus dealership. Of course this time the repairs will be more involved. I will be sure to report the results when I get the car back.

I just noticed my rear pads are almost gone and I am getting the metal scraping sound from the rear brakes. I have Stillen Metal Matrix pads front/back with about 32K easy miles. I had Jerry install these pads and brand new rear brake calipers with Brembo rotors at all 4 corners in 2003 because the old calipers seized. My front pads seems to have at least 1/2 of the pad material left so I am sort of surprised by the rear bias. Has anyone experienced the same thing? Maybe this is normal for our Qs and for Metal Matrix pads so you might want to check your pads soon....

By the way I highly recommend Darrin of West End Alignment in Gardena, CA for all suspension related issues. If you are in Southern California you definitely want to try him once. Darrin does excellent work on my Turbo'ed Miata track car and my '96 Q45t. He is extremly detailed and does not rely on any computerized machines. If you need more validation, just do a search on the Net for a few write ups about West End Alignment. I am not related to this shop, just a happy customer. Here is the contact info if anyone needs it:

on my 96q,rear brake pads always wear at least twice as fast as the fronts using factory pads all around- last set lasted 32,000 miles on rear, and almost 70,000 on the fronts!

Enjoy your Q!
Great info on the suspension shop - I think the Q community would be well served if we posted up some names of shops that have proved they have the moxie and experience for specialized work in different locales !

A referral from Jerry for some specialized work on my Q suspension leads me to mention another suspension shop down in San Diego:

Clarence Brown Alignment Services7747 Vickers St, San Diego, 92111 (Around the block from Jerry’s) (858) 565-2981

Ask for Chris to do the work on your Q !
