Hi Everyone,
I've got a couple of questions for you. First of all, I'll tell you that I have a 2001 Sentra SE M/T with 320,500 miles on it, all orig drivetrain/clutch etc... no typos here. I bought it brand new in '01 and have been on the road a lot (musician). I've taken very good care of it, and have only recently had a few issues I'm having trouble with.
1. I'm getting the code for the PNP switch. The sensor on the bottom of the transmission looks like it was broken off, then patched up with epoxy. Probably something some bozo at a shop did and didn't want to get reprimanded for, and didn't tell anyone. Well, now the fix has failed and the wire is hanging from the harness, and the rest of the plug is stuck in the socket. a) Where can I find the replacement part. b) tips on fixing said problem?
2. I just had an aftermarket CV axle (remanufactured, purchased at NAPA) put in on the passenger side. When I went to find parts, the ones Autozone had did not fit this car. Went to the Nissan dealership where I bought the car 10 years ago, they looked up the VIN, and got the part numbers from them (as they wanted $675 PER SIDE for new...out of my budget). I put the Nissan OEM number in Napa's cross-reference and came up with the part that is now installed. However, when I put the VIN in Napa's system, it says the part isn't for my car. Physically, the part fits, which the "correct" parts from Autozone did not, however I'm getting vibration during acceleration and a slight "clunk" when shifting as the power resumes after the shift. I've read on some other forums that it is a balancing issue with aftermarket axles, and many people were recommending Raxles.com. The car has a limited slip differential and does not have anti-lock brakes. Also note that these problems didn't exist prior to the installation of the new axle. Has been about 2 weeks since install.
Obviously, I drive a lot, and am relying on my "Little Red Wonder." So, I want to resolve these issuse ASAP. The engine/tran/clutch all work great!!! Moving to NYC three years ago, though, has been tough on it, especially the suspension (thank you NYC roads).
Help? Suggestions?
Thanks!!
Seth
