Long story short, my S13 5 speed transmission has a leak through the sensors. Pretty much from all the sensors other than the speed sensor (all the small ones, Reverse, Neutral, 4th gear, and 5th gear sensors)

I have heard most of the sensors are basically useless and i could just plug them up and cut/seal the wires. I plan to just get a new reverse sensor and plug the rest up (would be nice to have reverse lights)

Here are my questions:

1) Is it ok for me to remove the other sensors (Neutral, 4th gear, 5th gear sensors)? Is there any re-wiring I have to do? What do those 3 sensors do? any adverse effects after removal?

2) Do anybody know what I can use to plug those sensor holes? (just find a bolt with the same thread and pitch?)

3) any hints on taking off that transmission fill plug? It’s a super pain in the a**…..

sorry for the long post, any info on this subject would be a great help for me.

Thanks in advance...

Use PB Blaster on the filler plug. Let it sit for an hour or less, and remove w/½” breaker bar. Just leave the sensors in place. Use teflon around the threads of the sensors to keep from leaking.

The only sensor I wired up after my swap was the reverse sensor...thats all you really need.

Whats the upside in having the neutral sensor? I know the OD (5th) position sensor is useless.

Yeah, plug them with a bolt.

thanks for all the replies guys!

oh ya, about the filler plug, its not like the drain plug for which it has a square female plug, the fill plug its a square male plug, tried to use a adjustable wrench but it seems like it would slip and strip the plug....just wondering if there are any tricks to it...

i want to leave the sensors in but its not leaking from the threads, its actually leaking through the sensors....so teflon tape on threads wouldnt help. Anyways, i guess those sensors are coming out when i change my MTF, so just cut the wires remove the sensors and seal it? no need to do any other wiring work??

BTW do any of you guys know what thread/pitch bolt to use to plug those sensors?

thanks again guys
