Any experienced tips for changing the plugs 94 q45t

Service manual says to remove air duct on left and disconnect power transistors, but to my eye there are a lot more things in the way of the covers than that.

Do I need any special tools other than metric sockets??

Thanks

Hex drive for cover screws, multi swivels and extensions, air or electric assist. The fun begins when the covers are off: 4 coils and harness under each cover.

My advice... just make sure you have plenty of time to tackle the job. Like Tech said... a swivel head socket to get to #8 and some tedious work with the hex screws to get them out. The ones closest to the engine bay are a blast :) It's not rocket science, just work... I thread two extensions for #8 through the loop in the A/C tube... you'll know what I'm talking about when you get there.

When you remove the plugs, if you find oil on the threads that indicates that it's time for new rocker (valve) cover seals. Check for any signs of corrosion on the tops of the old plugs if there's oil present. If so you may want to replace the coil boots after resealing the rocker covers.

It is not that hard but it takes a lot of persistance and patience. It is pretty straight forward and you do not need any special manual. However, you will have to remove a few items in the way. Take care not to drop the hex nuts - they are small and black! Once the plastic covers are off it is pretty easy to un-hook the harnesses. Be careful though as the heat over the miles makes them brittle -- only bend them as little as necessary. after un-hooking the harness start with the front plug and gently pull the coil straight off the top of the plug. I generally pull the plug and put the coil back in place before starting the next one. If not, be sure to mark the coil's position if you pull all four from one bank at a time. You need an extension for your socket wrench -- 6" or 8" (I cannot recall which one). Also, go get a new spark-plug socket with a good insert to hold the new plugs as you lower them "down the chute" to thread them in. Start them by hand! You will also need a flexible elbow that connects to the extension for a few of the back plugs. Expect about 4 - 6 hours the first time -- much faster on second change-outs.
