As the title states I found this in my oil pan after removing it today.

the red material feels like rubber, perhaps this was a sensor? I'm surprised my motor hasn't seized while this part went through it. Oh and this broken piece is aluminum because my magnet wasn't able to pick it up.

I have no idea wtf this is, but its metal and I found it in the oil strainer/pick up, I'm glad this piece didn't go through the oil pump.

The flat circle is a valve shim from the head. Better check out whats going on under the valve cover.

The spherical thing is casting for the bolt holes on the upper oil pan. The red stuff is silicon. Since it's not grey, I assume someone has had the upper pan off and when they reinstalled it, overtightened that particular bolt (possibly used an air tool) and it eventually fatigued the casting and broke off.

now would be a good time to check all bearing surfaces before you have serious engine damage.
