so my father is taking charge again and making me go to the car audio place in the area to buy and install my subs. so when i went he told me i should put a jl 10w3 with 500 watt amp. it has 500rms but my main question is this enough. i want it to be pretty loud and thump hard. the guy quoted me 500 for the sub, box, amp, wireing kit, and labor for install.. good deal? good package thump hard?? please help lol.. thanks in advance

well it depends on what you consider thumping hard. using stock speakers and head unit it should blend in and sound decent. my suggestion would be upgrade to a aftermarket head unit, speakers, amp, and subs. The head unit should have a subwoofer control that way you can control the volume of the sub. Thats just what I would do. I understand your probably on a budget, so...the w3 will sound good but could sound much better!

Yea.. when i was at the car toys store he told me i should get the sony 740 model which i can control the bass and remove the bass from stock speakers to clarify music. he said that aftermarket speakers would make it better but not nessasery. im just not really sure if im gunna be happy with 500 watts.

500 Watts on one 10" W3 is plenty of power. BUT, one 10" sub might not give you the "thump" you are looking for. Sounds to me like you want to be heard coming and seen going, I dont think one 10" W3 is going to give you that.

Might want to consider waiting and saving some more money and then purchasing a pair of subs, maybe even 12"s if you really want loud rediculous bass.

I used to have 2 10"jl w3's. They knocked pretty hard. Now i have two 12" rf T1's. but alpine type r's are nice subs. You should be happy with these. I have 2 mtx audio jh600s. 600w rms. They are 145 each on amazon. Hope this helps a little.

if you want to be heard, go with a vented/ported box. They're designed for SPL, not sql. Sealed boxes are for SQL but have a flat response. Also the box has to be tuned for your sub which is why it's always good to have a box custom designed for your sub instead of going with prefab boxes.

If you don't go with a mono amp and sub, the rear deck 6x9's are good enough, but they'll sound much better with aftermarket speakers and an aftermarket head unit. To me, the 6x9's are mid bass...not designed for producing real lows.

I just got my 09 altima and can't really stand the factory speakers. Hoping to use my tax refund on a much better system as I was able to retrieve my Audiopipe 1500D mono amp after my other car was totaled. This time around I'm planning on going with a smaller 2.0 cu. ft box instead of a 3 cu. ft box. I'm basically a bass head enjoying TONS of bass!! I had a 12" Hifonics Olympus 1600 rms dual 2ohm sub that I used to blast on the freeway!
