Great writeup Wes! If you can get the block coolant plugs out, you don't have any coolant in the valley.

911-- Thats true, but I wasnt about going to bother with that, as I heard how Hitman had woes with his.... Id rather just soak it up rather than go through all that mess....

Good job Wes. The bottom 2 pics aren't loading for me. Also, you show your intake all plugged up with towels, but I didn't see it mentioned in the write-up. Can't overstress the importance of them!

You could also have disconnected the lower radiator hose to lower the coolant level before disconnecting the valley coolant hoses.

How dirty was your IAC? My idle seems to vary from 500-1000 and I'm thinking the IAC is the culprit. Did you find that vaccum leak? Nice work on the write up.

I havent yet found the vacuum leak..... And my IAC wasnt really dirty, but when I turned the screw it was very sticky.... You should be able to clean the IAC on the car, just unbolt it from the plenum and clean it out.... The canned air will be very helpful, spray the carb cleaner in there and blow it out....

Robert- Ill work on those bottom 2 pictures, as they are just pictures of my car in the shop.... Im not sure why they arent loading as they are in my server but they arent loading for some reason..... I also added the thing about using paper towels.....

Good job Wes.

However, for some reason, about 8 of the pictures don't load when I pull it up.

a good half of the pictures didn't load for me. very nice write-up wes, and i have to admit, it didn't look as bad as i thought (still not very pleasant, though)!!!!LOL my question for is, other than the under plenum kit that joe sells, what other parts/hoses should i get, or that i'll definitly need when i take it to vanmeter. trying to save myself the expense of him having to hit up his part guy =more $$.

Make sure that you have the correct name and CASE. Filenames are usually case-sensitive on Linux-based servers.

In other words, make sure the capitalization is the same between your files and the hyperlinks. I noticed that the hyperlinks on your writeup have the first letter capitalized. Make sure the file on the server isn't all lower case.

Don't ask how I know this. :-)

Jeff- I got my parts list from here... Do a search for PLENUM PARTS LIST... That is the one I am going to put on my writeup, with a few other things.... I DIDNT just order the plenum hose kit, as that just includes mostly crankcase air hoses and not the coolant or secondary air hoses....

Carlos.... I am checking on that right now....

Hey you give me a week or so notice and we can work something out in that shop..... Even if its in the summer, Id have a place to put it up there and youd have access to the tools!!! Plus youd have a graduate to help you!!! :D

And I plan on keeping my Q for a LONG time (forever unless I jsut cant)...

I am still sorta baffled why someone hasnt done this writeup before.. the pictures really helped me out in puttin thigns back together.....

My Q is going into the shop this coming week for a shopping list of things... AC service (maybe), putting the snows on, getting the oil changed, finding the vacuum leak (hopefully) and I think thats it....

I just cant wait to have until I do get the idle problem fixed, as I have been longing for monthis to get the Qs idle PEFRECT.. So close, yet so far away!!! :D

BTW, this article was just a little payback for all the help that NICO has given me... You guys have saved me a lot of money, and you definitely put up with a whole bunch in my former years...

Great post!

I am looking forward to mine, now.

I have a small wet/dry vac, that I bought from Sears, that I used to suck all the trash and water/fuel from the valley, when I cleaned my engine. It works a little better than a turkey baster.

Yeah Jeff, thats probably a better idea... I cleaned up all the gooey stuff with a putty knife and left the excess coolant down there, as it will evaporate!

hey wes, your parts list,,,,,,is that everything i would need to get for a complete job? i'll probably be dropping it off at my tech's shop, and would like to do without him having to scramble around for parts himself. he also wanted me to fax him the parts list, so thanks for including the parts #'s!jeff

My grand total was 437.77

I forgot to add on my list the PCV valve... O2 sensors bank on about $100 each
