Would the plenum off a 1st Gen (90 or 93) fit a 94 model? I'm thinking about pulling one from the junkyard since they have one and maybe polishing it or something. Then someday when I pull mine off the replace all those hoses I'll have a cool one to replace.

When I did my plenum it was off an early Q. Should be fine. Don't polish, powder coat!

Well, since you brought it up, can you tell me how you did yours. It rocks!

I know there are some changes with the runners between the two, but I'm not sure on the plenum. Might be worth checking with Joe to see if they have the same part number.

I checked with Dan in Scottsdale and he said there have been 3 different Plenums on the G50s.

Good info eh? He didn't say what the differences were. They might be insignificant, but who knows.

Must be a small difference. I'd get the same year to play it safe.As far as powder coating, A local guy who does street rods did mine. Cost $300 But it looks amazing. Not just red, it's candy apple. It looks like it has a glass coating over the color. Very nice! Try to find a local pro in your area, don't just paint it and it will truely be one of a kind. People like my car but when I pop the hood they freak!

Q im working on right now has a powdercoated plenum. Leave the bolts in the bolt holes when you get it powdercoated or retap the threads. What happens is the powdercoat stuff gets in the threads and makes the bolts go in a lot tougher than they should.

Do you have to worry about getting powercoat inside the tubes?

Im sure the powdercoat people will put something over the big holes so that it doesnt go inside (there was no stuff inside this plenum).. just best to leave the bolts in there OR retap the threads. retapping the threads isnt a big deal, and honestly its decent practice.

You can use a 22cal gun brush in a dremel to clean out the threads without removing any of the actual threaded area itself.

No re-tapping necessary unless going to a larger bolt.

Spent an hour or so pulling the plenum and stuff off today and when I got to checkout they wanted $80 for it. Talked them down to $50, but only wanted to give $25. That's alot of money just for something to play with that might not fit anyway.

One thing I learned is that I don't believe I want to do my own plenum job!

It's not that hard! Come on, you can do yours! I've done mine twice. What year did you pull it from? I really don't think there is much of a difference. Pull yours and match them. $50 isn't that bad.

The only thing that really sucks about is when the hoses are hard as rocks and you have to literally break them off. Thats no fun!

If all the hoses come off with relative ease, I can pull a Q plenum in under and hour and put it back on in about the same amount of time. Ive done the plenum a few times but its still not that bad.

for those that have awful hoses your best off getting every single hose you could want from joe and then start hacking when you get under there.

Getting it off the 93 wasn't really all that bad, however we had the hood off and I was standing on the motor. Plus, I think there's a real difference between pulling one off at a junkyard vs pulling the one of MY Q! I imagine getting it back on is the really difficult part.
