Hey guys, I was chasing a strange rattling noise from my plenum today, and found that I'd installed the gasket for the back plate on the plenum upside down. This caused an airleak, and made the PCV valve rattle very noisily at idle.

The gasket is a simple square gasket with a big hole in the middle. There are 4 bolt holes, and another hole in the gasket for no other particular reason...except to cause trouble for me.

If I had installed the gasket with the 'extra hole' to the top, there would have been no problem.

I basically cut another gasket out of some spare gasket material. After replacing it..the problem is fixed. I was thinking it was a powervalve problem. Turns out the fix was cheap and simple.

Tomorrow, I can add pictures to help people learn from my mistake.

Most of us will never replace the gasket I'm talking about. But just be aware of this. My engine now 'hums' at idle like a contented pig in mud... Which I'm pretty happy about.

Cheers,Chris

I always replace all the plenum gaskets, and I normally weld up the PCV valve too
