geeeze..... so many differnt answers... I was afraid of that. I want the one that is gonna make my car take off from a dead stop. Right now, it seems to not have any balls till im at anout 4.5 - 5k in 1st gear I WANNA SPIN THESE 10" WIDE TIRES DAMMIT!!!!!!RED_DET wrote:get the 5/16 from motordyne and be happy. most gains across a broad range.
Now, What is the difference between this jwt or twj pop charger or whatever and just a cheap mendrel bent aluminum intake off ebay? besides about 100 bucks? Like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...d=1,1Why would this one be bad? It looks like it's everyhting i need. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the "Z" tube is nothing but the upper intake pipe but with out the kinks the rubber hose has in it?! I don't know. Maybe it's a credbility thing. Something to put on my "NicoClub Signature" at the end of my posts...... like I said... someone correct me if I'm wrong.... show me where the "real" value is in those high dollar intakes. I'd love to know.G_whizz wrote:Welcome to NiCO...you definitely want the intake first. Above everything else...that should be your first mod
I'd love to see a dyno chart of these 2 items side by side. The ONLY thing I can see that MIGHT hinder the perofrmance with the ebau intake is the bend at the cone. What does thin mean? It sucks less air? haha04G356MT wrote:Well what i see from looking at the ebay intake is what looks like THIN tubeing with a really nasty bend up at the filter, a cheap looking filter, and a Ebay name, AND no heatshield... you get what you pay for my friend and you have to pay to play
Those intakes are "short-ram" intakes. You have two choices, JWT or Stillen. They are the same thing, except Stillen has a nicer plastic heat shield. You're right about the Z-tube, it eliminates the bends that reduce flow (but make it quieter). Both intakes, with the Z-tube, will increase HP and give you a better intake sound.D_Car777 wrote:Now, What is the difference between this jwt or twj pop charger or whatever and just a cheap mendrel bent aluminum intake off ebay? besides about 100 bucks? haha.... yeah, my point was (and I know someone was gonna say this) The walls being thin, yes I know that would mean "reduced strength" but I dont plan on standing on it, and i don't think my car sucks quite hard enough to collapse a metal pipe. As far as heat soak and getting hot, I am a chef and have a culinary license and know a little about heat soak. Thinner metal gets hot quicker, but no hotter than a "non-reduced strength" pan. For instance, if I drive with my "reduced strength" intake, lets say for 30 mins in this florida heat, it will be hot enough to cook an egg on. I'll go in a bar have a beer or 4 (non alcoholic ofcourse) go out and touch my intake and I could cool my soda off with it because it will not retain heat. NOW, lets assume I had a "non-reduced strength" intake made of cast iron like a dutch oven. I drive to the same bar, have the same number of drinks... hell, I even stay the night....That intake would still be hot enough to castrate a rabid dog. So, I think I might get a more enjoyabe point to point experiance with my thinner metal intake. Sorry about the rant, I just wanted to make a point. I see you all's point though, ebay is what it is.... i was lookin at everythting g35 and I think im gonna go with the jwt filter and the stillin tube.smockers83 wrote:thin - 'thin, adj. 1 a : having little extent from one surface to its opposite <thin paper> b : measuring little in cross section or diameter <thin rope> 2 : not dense in arrangement or distribution <thin hair> 3 : not well fleshed : LEAN 4 a : more fluid or rarefied than normal <thin air> b : having less than the usual number : SCANTY <thin attendance> c : few in number : SCARCE d : scantily supplied e : characterized by a paucity of bids or offerings <a thin market> Sorry, I just had to do it. He means the walls of the tubing are thin which = cheap (poor build quality) and more heat absorption for starters.
