God damnit I hate comcast.

I really do hope Google comes in and just throws a massive monkey wrench into the virtual monopoly that is internet/telecom.

Even better, Comcast will be moving to capped data limits in the near future.

Of course I'm terrified by what's happening with "net neutrality" (what a stupid term!) but as with all things involving our Federal Government, I know my views are pointless and no amount of personal activism is going to make any measurable difference.

Isn't it great to live under a Democracy where the views of the people are heard and met?

We've built our global and national infrastructures up around the ability for people to be connected. You can't go messing with that. It's far, FAR too late to go addressing this issue in any legal capacity. Things have already evolved on their own. At this point, control of internet access is akin to hydraulic despotism. He who controls the 'net controls the Universe.

This whole thing is an interesting thing, and I think a lot can be said about the cell phone market as well. Without the internet, most of what we do would be pretty crippled... We definitely have taken this easy access to stuff for granted..

Who didn't see this mess coming given the appointment of a former telecom lobbyist to the head the FCC?

Oh yeah, about that...

Obama - no lobbyists in my administration

From the article:

During the campaign, on the Obama-Biden change.gov website, the ethics agenda page quoted candidate Obama as saying: “I am in this race to tell the corporate lobbyists that their days of setting the agenda in Washington are over. I have done more than any other candidate in this race to take on lobbyists—and won. They have not funded my campaign, they will not run my White House, and they will not drown out the voices of the American people when I am president.”

Obama to Appoint Tom Wheeler

From the article:

"Wheeler raised more than $500,000 for Obama's re-election effort, according to data provided by the campaign. He also contributed more than $17,000 combined to Obama's re-election and to several Senate campaigns, including Virginia Democratic senator Tim Kaine's successful effort."

I think I've still got one of these in a box someplace..

...maybe there is a future for dial-up after all.

^Dude that really pisses me off.
I mean, Obama wasn't exactly a beacon of morality in my eyes to begin with, but that's some serious s*** right there.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO): Net Neutrality
Cable companies are trying to create an unequal playing field for internet speeds, but they're doing it so boringly that most news outlets aren't covering it. John Oliver explains the controversy and lets viewers know how they can voice their displeasure to the FCC. (www.fcc.gov/comments, for any interested parties).
