That this isn't ruined. I pulled my crank pulleys off earlier because I was going to clean in behind there and once I got it off I decided I might as well go ahead and change out the front seal. Well my dad was down there and he said I can get that seal out, just get me a screw driver. I knew I should have just went and gotten a seal puller because now where the seal sits it's scratched. It's not deep, but still, it's there and I'm worried. If you run your finger around the hole you can feel it. Is it ruined? Could you just put some RTV high temp silicone in there? The scratch is on the upper left side, you can't really miss it in the pic though.

You could try using a little crocus cloth to blend the metal, but other than that I don't know about further repairs on your block...if you can blend it well enough, though, you might be alright. Try it out and see what results you get.

If worse came to worse I guess I would just have to replace that front cover/oil pump assembly. If I used the crocus cloth would it not just even out the scratch? I mean it'd still be there really?

Meh, mine has a deeper scratch than that, just put a real light coat of RTV in that area and put the seal in. No need to cough up $200 on a new oil pump because of a little scratch.

So you put some on there before you put the seal back in? Did you let it dry first or put the seal back in right after you put the rtv on?

Yep. Just smear some in there where the scratch is, and pop the seal in. Just don't get too crazy with it, it doesn't take much.

You'll know if it didn't seal right though, you'll get a little oil on the front cover over time. Mine took about 3 or 4 months before it got bad enough that I had to actually clean it. lol

So yours still leaked after you put the RTV on?!

No, that's just how it was before I redid the seal, it's fine now.

Another quick question, will the front and rear seals off or a 93' central se-r work on the Sr20?

No problem. Those seals are actually the same as a KA24DE as well.

Oh I didn't know that. You don't have to put any grease or anything in those before you put them in do you? I did put some oil on the crank pulley around the parallel key area. I'm also going to change out the rear seal. I was looking at it tonight and it looked like there was a plate on there around the outside of the seal that might have to be removed via 4 bolts, but do you have to take that off or can you just use a seal puller and snake it in there and pull the seal out?

I would put a light film of grease or oil on the lip, yea.

For the rear seal, don't remove the retainer unless you really really have to, it's a pain to get it to seal back up with out pulling the upper oil pan off (don't ask how I know!), so just use a puller on it.

When you say a light film on the lip, which part are you calling the lip? I already put it back on, I just oiled the inside of it lightly, but like I said, I put some oil there where the crank pulley touches the seal too. But I can take it out and get a new one if you think I should. I won't take the retainer off the rear seal, i'll pick up a puller tomorrow and see if I can get it outta there.
