First off I'am not looking for sympathy....A while back there was a thread on here somewhere that eveyone posted there driving record from best to worst.I included on the worst......Well all of that has added up to thisLicense SuspensionDriving Under Suspension... Dumb aZZ idea! Well in short I was sitting in a park behind the wheel truck not running, keyes in ignition, park ranger approaches, no licenese, arrested, released by officer short time later. Court appearence, misdeamenor charge punishable upto $1000 fine and 6 months in jail. This charge can usual be gotten off pretty easy.....not with a long record like mine. Now under Ohio law you also forfiet your vehicle after 3 DUS in 6 years. So the result is now..$275.00 Fines They are taking the truck forever 45 days in jail.......possibility of losing my job that I have had for 6 years unless something is worked out.

So if anything I would like younger drivers to learn from my mistakes, please follow the traffic laws, keep racing and all that sort of stuff on a track or closed course.Think before you act.

That is BS man. How can they take your truck?

Hire the best attorney you can, it will be worth it.

What was the park rangers reason for approaching you in the first place?

Sucks. I have heard similar stories about people being in the drivers seat w/ the keys in the ignition, although not driving, but still got arrested. One time some guy was drunk and he new it so he pulled off the road and slept it off, but that morning a cop came and arrested him for DUI since he was in the drivers seat

Supposedly they had changed the law in January so that if the vehicle was not running you couldn't be charged with DUS, but in my case the park ranger lied and said it was. On his report it was like a little sentence stuck in the middle. "The truck was running." I told my attonery it was BS but he said Rangers word against mine. I know it wasn't running, sitting on an incline with no e-brake it has to be left in gear to keep from rolling...........still didn't matter.

I suppose because the law sees it as regardless of what you were doing or not doing you shouldn't be in the driver's seat of a car at all.

Sorry to hear what happened, best of luck man

Glad you're sharing your lesson with others - I respect your not asking for sympathy.

Sometimes the law seems to be unfair, but it's not too hard to behave... I of all people should know! :)

Hope things turn around for you.

Well I have been through some of that myself.I lost mine for 6 months when I was 19 for too many tickets the last of which was a 30mph over. Then got caught driving on suspended so that added another 6 months. Got my License back and got several tickets, forgot to go to traffic school and had them revoked and spent the night in jail for contempt of court.Doup!

Then I learned my lesson finally.Took forever to get off of high risk ins. paid well over $10K in fines by 21 years old.Now I'm a "good boy" or try to be.

Good Luck!

My best advise is to just get a good mountain bike and learn from your mistakes.

Yeah this is it for me, lesson learned. Just this year I am around $5K in fines, lawyer fees, traffic schools, impound releases, it all adds up quick. Plus all the other hastles. Makes me sick to think all of that money could be going in to the 240.

I respect your sharing that story. That sucks. I have a good friend who got nailed for DUI while sleeping it off in his car with the car parked, radio on and engine off. The cop cited him because the key was in the ignition. He was fortunate to have gotten nailed before the states toughened the DUI laws. I hope your message gets out, and that it works out for you.

My driving record when I was 21 was 6 typed pages. DUS, wreckless speeding, no inspection sticker, exhaust noise, FTA and others. I stopped DUSing after the police threatened to shoot me if they caught me again. (I just think about all the stuff they didn't catch me doing whenever I would think it was unfair)

Now ten years later I have zero points and much better insurance rates. I think it's all part of growing up.

THAT is a profound statement. Brilliant stuff. Every time someone whines about getting cited for an infraction, think of all the times you've gotten away with it.

Yeah deffinately agree with that. All the stuff they didn't catch me doing. I think everytime I drove I was excedding the speed limit. Compared to the number of times I got caught it probably is a realy good ratio.
