yeah but its 4th gear not 5th. and as im told you should have the hand brake up when you do it. I believe your clutch has to be fried to do this

i think the point of the hand break is to put load on the clutch to force it to slip, but I didnt invent it. Just someone elses bright idea

If you quickly go from coast to WOT in 4th or 5th gear, and the rpm's go up faster than the spped of the car, your clutch is slipping. If you take off hard and you smell clutch smoke, your clutch is slipping. If your girlfriend weighs 400 lbs and she rides reguarly in your 5 spd 240, your clutch is probably going to go out.

my clutch is a **** xtd stage 1.. i over-heated it really bad one night from drifting then all the sudden clutch was burning.. i could smell it for 5 seconds.. shut my car off for 10 minutes.. start it back up and then I put the car in 5th gear and the car was pulling out without stalling... but then the next day i did the same 5th gear and tried to pull out and my car stalled.. so i'm guessing the clutch is glazed and ever since its been having more trouble's to grab while pulling off a hill.

Putting it in 5th and trying to pull out is just testing your ability to slip the clutch enough not to stall it. If your engine stalls doing this you just need to work on your foot work. It has no bearing on whether your clutch is going out or not. If you think it is starting to go, you should stop trying to do these 5th gear or any other gear antics, your just making it worse. Just take it more easy on the launches and shifts until you can get another clutch.

yeah you said it there.. I am most likely gonna swap my clutch soon even if it works or not... cuz since day 1.. i hated this xtd clutch.. I can't seem to trust this clutch at all. it feels like crap and whole bunch of things. so this summer I may get something better and higher stage plus a flywheel combo.

yeah thats why you dont slip the hell out of it while doing that test just put it in fifth and try to start puling away fairly normaly...it should just stall. If you are not excessively slipping the clutch having the ebrake on, or drivng in a high gear should just stall the car, if it doesn't your clutch isn't holding well enough to stall the engine.

That's stupid. Just hauls a** in 2nd gear If it doesn't slip your fine. Watch your rpms. If it does this drive easy for a week. Allow the clutch to get mated to the flywheel. I've heated mine up a few times. So just drive easy and it will fix itself, unless the clutch is old.

okay guys so i need to shop for a good clutch kit.. please help me out. : )

i need a good stage clutch no more than 230 dollars. and the kit has to come with a good amount of pressure in the pedal... so its a must to have a good feel in the pedal.... i don't want anything that feels weak and feels crappy like xtd.

so i been seaching on ebay... and i found this proclutch kit.. Has anyone ever herd of Pro-Clutch... this kit is a stage 3 for 145 dollars but on the actual proclutch website it goes for 405 dollars so what gives? is the ebay stage 3 gonna be a rip off or not??

here's the link for ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1

145 $

then 405$ or something high on http://www.proclutch.com

Then my friend your an idiot, the search button is there for a reason, to read about peoples experiences with different clutches, pro's and con's, do's and do's and don't's, if you don't take time to read, you will never learn anything !!!

searching takes up too much time. heh..

but i might buy a act 6 puck unsprung, act pressure plate, lightweight flywheel.

i hear act will give me the good stiff pedal that i wanna feel, but then someone told me if its too stiff i'll blow out clutch lines and slave cylinders.. and it'll bog my engine down? WTF?

i had an act clutch in my stealth and that thing was a pain to push in. i mean you had to be arnold swatzmygovenor to push that thing in. matter of fact, by the time i blew up my stealth my left leg was prolly as big as his was when he did connan.

Ok to start things off the actual test to see if your clutch is slipping is called the 1st to 5th test.

1. Find a nice uninhabited straight road

2. Put it in first and take of normally....now run it up to about 5000rpms while still in first and then quickly throw it in 5th gear and mash the gas to the floor.

3. After doing this the engine should bog down. If the engine whines out that means your clutch is slipping and needs to be replaced.

Just get a freakin OEM Exedy Clutch, that's all you need until you start boosting!
