well... here we go....

my gas pedal came off the cable that goes to the throttle body... i put the cable back on and tightened the cable at the throttle body, but there is still some slack, i have to push the pedal down probably close to an inch or so before it catches the cable and accelerates my car (pain in the *** in first gear) i cant tighten the cable any more and i don't know what to do... i think it may be my pedal itself, it just sits up higher than before but im not sure.. i went to a nissan dealership around my house and they placed the order for the cable.... 2 days later i got a phone call saying the cable is no longer in production and there is not 1 cable in any nissan dealership in the USA.... now i don't know what to do... was my problem the acceleration cable? or is it the gas pedal itself? what should i do?!?!? HEEEELLLPPP

Just a thought, Did you check to see if there was a spring attached to the accelerator pedal, and if so is yours either broken or missing?Hope this helped a little.

The throttle cable attaches to a rotating assembly at the throttle plate, so if this is closing on it's own, there is no spring involved to check. When you hooked up the cable - did you put both the nuts on it? One goes on one side of the mounting plate, the other on the other side. Without both, the cable will move and pop out again. Next thing - when the cable came off the pedal - where did it come off? inside under the dash? If so, there is a pin and cotter key that places it high up on the pedal - did you put it back where it came from or someplace lower on the pedal? Since your pedal is sitting higher now, my guess is you attached it to the wrong spot. If the cable is attached, then it ain't broken, so replacing it is not likely to fix the problem. This cable can be 100 feet long, but it doesn't matter so long as you have it attached tot he pedal where it belongs and to the throttle plate where it belongs. good luck!

it would take a lot of force to stretch the cable, don't think you did that.

that cable is steel braid it will break before it will ever stretch. If the cable under the dash is attatched to the cable catch on the pedal you should be able to adjust the slack out with the 2 nuts mentioned above if you cant then the cable housing is most likely split open and this usually happens right near those 2 nuts. to take up the slack you screw the nuts toward the front of the threaded barrow section of the cables housing. on a fulley warmed up car your should have very little slack in the cable that extends from the cable housing to the throttle drum[rotating portion on throttle body]. once you have the adjustment set you tighten the 2 nuts up against the fork the cable sets in.

the cable is in the fork and the cable is tightened as much as possible at the throttle body... ive heard from atleast 5-10 different people that the cable is probably stretched (not 15 year old pimple faced people either 5-10 knowledgeable older men) i put my gas pedal in a vice and bent it to fit the extra slack and fixed the problem slightly, but there still is a little play in the gas pedal...
