82 in a 35...sorry but you're screwed.

I'm surprised you didn't get your car impounded. Thats 234% of the legal posted speed. In some states driving that fast can be considered a felony.

I'm not sure if courts distiguish a 1st ticket. I know that insurance companies only look back 3 years...as if you only have had your license in the past 3 years.

I dont know what to tell you in this situation. There are other members on the forum here from various occupations. I'm sure they'll chime in. Hopefully they can give you some advice. My guess is that they will recommend you getting a lawyer.

my first ticket was 100 in a 70 zone (in my jeep and i was 19yrs old) and the officer pulled his gun cause he thought i was running from him, according to him it took him some time to catch up to me.... he said it was felony speeding since i was over 15mph... and that he could arrest me and take my lisence on the spot... but once he saw it was my first ticket and i had no record, he dropped the speed to 85 in a 70, but noted "he clocked me at 95+mph" on the ticket. was only a $125 "cause it was my first ticket" according to the lady at the court...

i got lucky... i hope your case works out like mines

Toolbothwilley is absolutely correct.

When you add testpipes, they will pull you over for as little as disturbing the peace of a fly.

In 1999, in my little nissan, I was clocked at 105 mph in a 70 mile an hour limit. I received a reckless driving ticket, which is worse than what you have. if you have the money, get a lawyer.

By the way, why would you be doing 82 in a 35? 35mph roads tend to have children running around or people walking around.

same thing i was thinking... i have learned to be humble in my g35x... people with cars that you can already see you are going to beat will try you at a red light or on the highway... if the car is a honda accord/civic(non si or rsx) or some other POS... no point in proving how fast you are... just to end up with the ticket...

I am fighting a ticket in Atlanta GA right now... 94 in a 55 that is 39 over... I got an attorney for 700 bux to take care of the whole thing.

Get a lawyer he will be your best friend in the court room! He can come up with some sort of thing that you were running from some other vehicle was being reckless and imposing an eminent threat to your safety and you had no other choice but to accelerate to an unlawful speed to remove yourself from the situation.

Some BS like that will help you!

Keep us posted!

the reason i was going 82 in a 35 first off it was a old country rd usally no traffic on it, second this van cut me off so i did it back. i felt like i was bveing followed so i turned on the country backroad to lose him i hit about 65 pretty far away and slowed down when i looked in my rear view mirror he was right on my a** again so i floored it and then blue light special was behind some bushes in someones driveway and got me.

i dont have alot of money right now after the down payment i put down on my car but you all really think i should get a lawyer? i cant afford to lose my license. since the first ticket do u think they will give me any mercy?

Only thing I can add to this is dress nice and be very respectful to the judge and say yes ma'am or sir. Don't try to talk back or make excuses. Admit your guilt and act like you are very sorry and won't do it again. My daughter was in an accident and it was real iffy as to who was at fault. She did just that. Very nice, well mannered and respectful. Judge let her go and she didn't even have to pay court costs.

Come on guys....S2000s are really fun cars. When I had mine, I knew it was slow. Didn't bother me a bit. It cornered like and SOB and would turn every head in town. I also knew that I had another car back home in the garage that would waste most anything on the road.

I'm surprised you didn't loose your license. If you can't get a lawyer (which I also recommend) plead with the judge and tell him that "you were afraid for your life as you thought you saw a gun. You made a mistake and you'll never do it again".

yeah on one of those back roads i would of reacted the same way... i dont know... but the first thought that came to mind was "sounds like a setup with the van and the officer"

i hope your story holds up in court... that is a good explianation though in my opinion... cause there would be few i mean few other reasons to go that fast in a 35 zone...

yea.. I mean it wasn't like you were racing some one.... Provide that point... You were scared beyond a reasonable doubt and feared for your life...... Did you explain this situation to the officer?

You need to find an attorney who can work with the court to have the speeding portion of the ticket changed to another traffic infraction. I live in MS and have it done allot, shouldn't be a problem where you live. The court's are more interested in revenue than justice. It's easy to do and, YOU DO NOT WANT THIS ON YOUR RECORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got nailed doing 97 in a 65 MPH highway,State trooper gave me two tickets for a total of 7 points! By the way had no points on my record but anyway, got a local lawyer in the town I had my ticket in and he went to the prosecutor to see if they would work with us.they said no and were going to pull my license for 30 Days as well as getting the 7 points,my lawyer went to the judges chambers and pleaded my case and got me down to 4 points, big difference for insurance and not having to pay to getting your license back.By all means get a lawyer!

Or end up without a car or have an event you have to live with forever.

Over the last couple of years, someone in cars I provided has wiped out over $8000 in two of them. No more. It sounds familiar however. First one was someone pissed them off and they ended up tailgating the first which then slammed on the brakes and two vehicles ended up destroyed. The second one was when you leave a party when you shouldn't and you total a vehicle.

Both of these are cases of bad judgement and one should really suffer the consequences of bad judgements.

Before I rant however I have to take the biblical phrase about removing the timber out of your own eye before you remove the sliver out of your friends eye to heart. I did this as well, not too many years ago.

I had a Scion on my rear and just had to prove that he was no match for what I was driving, so it was 92 in a 35 through a corner. Haven't done anything like that since. It turned out to be one of those things that ended up with me being impressed by the capabilities of the car, the fact that I still could do it, and 'What in the hell was I thinking' bugging me even now.

Get a lawyer and plead stupid.

Please elaborate. Being an attorney does not arbitrarily make you trustworthy or credible. Citing the specific laws and potential outcomes based on actual law might. Especially if you don't practice law or know the traffic laws and the potential outcomes in KY (you indicate you are from OK). He also didn't indicate what specific traffic law he was cited for, which can have an effect on the potential penalties that can be assessed. Forgie me if it appears like I am attacking you in anyway. I'm just not one to allow someone to arbitrarily decide on getting an attorney without good reason.

so here it is...if your in cali..then i might be able to help you...but it only works 7/10 times..so lets pray...this is what you do...

if your in california...you fight your ticket...they're gonna set you a trial date...10 businesse day before that trial date...you reschdule your date tell them your leaving outta town or what not...and then you go in..and plead not guilty..this is your only way of getting out of it...(either way your effed)..so plead not guilty..so the judge is gonna set you another trial date..to come in and fight it with the cop...but before that happens...rescudle it again..try to do it as many time as possible...your main goal is to push it back as looong as you can..cause after an amount of time the cop just throw away the paper work..and so when you actually do show up for the court..and the cop dont show up..you automatically win your trial...so lets pray that it works for you..ive down this a few times..and it has work most of the time..good luck bro..

ok on the ticket it say's speeding; it says listed vehical doing high rate of speed. i doesnt say anything about reckless driving so i was told that was a good thing. i talked to a officer my girlfriend knows and he said 40 + here in kentucky is 9 points on ur license. We also have a traffic school here and if its your first ticket it will erase all points on ur license. i have been told by multiple people now to stay away from a lawyer.

in most states going 30 over is a felony and you might need a lawyer, but you will need to find out from your state, other than, hope you got a fat wallet because they will dig into it, sorry to bring into the bad news

Sorry to rain on your devils advocate parade, but he's right GET A LAWYER! Every run in I have had with traffic citations I have hired a lawyer and tickets were dismissed. Last year this time I was coming from Miami and was clocked at going 97mph in a 55mph contruction zone. It was on alligator alley which is normally a 70 mph zone, but they were previously doing work on the highway. There were no workers present and no one on the road at that time. I hired who I thought was one of the best traffic attorneys in that area and he got the ticket dismissed. On another occasion I was cited for having my windows tinted too dark and decided to fight it in court after I took it off and placed legal tint on so that it wouldnt affect my driving record. I was the last one to plead in court and then the judge came outside to see if my tint was legal and told me to come back in to get the paperwork signed as dismissed when I went back in there was an attorney waiting on him with a huge stack of tickets. While courts secretary (dont know what they call them) was finishing my paper work, I over heard the attorney bargin with the judge over which tickets he would dismiss and which one he wouldnt. To make a long story short attorneys have relationships with judges that you dont. In addition they know the technicalities of the law that you don't.

Reread my post. I merely asked him to elaborate. Why? #1. He's not an attorney in KY. He may not even be a traffic attorney. Laws vary from state to state, as do their penalties. Which brings me to #2. The OP didn't state what the specific violation was. Typically, a vehicle code number is listed that will specify clearly what he is being charged with. This will have the biggest impact on what his potential penalties might be. Vinny stated that the OP might lose his license. It would be a shame if the OP ended up paying for an attorney if he was concerned about losing his license and it turned out it wasn't ever at risk. The issue I was addressing in my post was quite specific...

31 years ago My friends and I would go to the local drag strip and run are cars. Well long story short we thoght it would be fun to run them in town at 2 am.Wrong I got ticketed 110 over. Now I never clocked a top end speed on the quarter more then 104mph so I knew the ticket was bogus. I was going about 90. Not good for in town. Lost license 1 year did 30 days in local jail and did 200 community service . All well desered. Now my racing is only on the track. cruise control is my best friend.

IF Ky is anything like Tn, you will be in traffic court w/ about 25 other dumb azz driver who were just as stupid as you. (I am telling you this from experience) Show up, and dress nice. Not suit and tie, but kakie's w/ a belt and worn properly, not haning off your azz, button down shirt tucked in, and nice shoes. not skate shoes ect.

I doubt you will be the first one called. So watch and listen to each case. You will be able to get a feel for the judges attitude that day. If the judge is going light on everyone, and giving out First timers class, then plead guilty. Be very respectful and yes sir, no ma'am.

If the judge is in a bad mood and slamming everyone, plead not guilty. Then when asked explain what happened. Be honest and do not feed any BS like I thought I saw a gun crap. He won't buy it. Tell him you know you were wrong, and that you learned a very valuable lession from this, and you will not let it happen again.

I have used both approched when I lived in Nashville and got off both times.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out for you.
