93 240sx Vert

So Today I got a bright idea to do a tune up to my car. *new plugs, new wires* due to a misfire I was experiencing but it was very subtle. After I f***ed up by buying the wrong plugs, my engine decided to do a huge jump in the car. I immediately shut it down. I replaced the Bosch *plats* with NGK *don't ask*. Anyway, I put new wires on, they are on correctly *I quadruple checked this myself as well as having a guy from Napa and the book as a guide.* I still was experiencing a misfire. So I replaced the distributor cap *I took it off and noticed a very small tear in it*. After that failed, I replaced the rotor. Still misfiring.

Napa said maybe a Vacuum hose came disconnected or leak in that area.

The problem I experience is no longer subtle and it only seemed to be my fault to begin with so please if you have any suggestions on how to check the leak on the vacuum hose, or another idea of what the problem might be..

what were the plugs gapped to???.039 ( min ) .043 ( max ) is oem specs.

the brand of the plug does not matter ( it does but not to get the engine running ). as long as the gaping is proper for your setup rather it be NA or boosted. to be on the safe side you can get pre-gaped plugs specifically for the KA which in stock form are NGK Bkr5e-11

My friend said the samething he said maybe the gap is wrong but the Napa dude said it came pre gapped...

It's an autotragic no boost.

The engine runs in park rpms shift immediately to 1500 rpms drop almost immediately after to 1000 rpms and when I shift to drive they drop to 800- and can go as low as 400 with the sputterring motion. Usually is just 700-500 rpms in drive with foot completely on the brake...

confirmed pre gapped.

yea but you always verify your gap no matter what.

sounds like you may need a new air/fuel filter and to clean your maf. adjusting your Air idler can help you out a bit also.

You could use a timing light and move it from wire to wire to see if its the same cylinder or if your miss is moving around. If it moves then its a good chance its a vacume line.

A good way to check for vac leaks is to get a can of starting fluid and spray it in any suspect areas, and listen for the engine to pick up in RPMs. You might also want to try seafoaming the car.

Have you been getting any oil on your plugs? If so you could've blown a cylinder ring. Also I suppose it is possible that it could've jumped timing when your engine tried to jump out of the car lol.
